    just my speculation/opinion.
there seemed to be more energy/discussion about the m860tu before it came out than right now when its available for order by the major retailers. dunno if anyone agrees..

all those people interested in getting the m860tu, did something change your mind? waiting for reviews, benchmarks, more information, something better, or something?

for me, im waiting for reviews to make sure the noise and temps are in check.
and i've overlooked the size dimensions, kinda on the big side...rivals 17" gaming laptop thickness which is not too good for portability. so im on the fence now.

I was disappointed about the lack of S-video out and advertised battery life. I would've expected current-gen to outlast the equivalent tech of 4 years ago. My current laptop can still go up to 4 hours on a 9-cell and it's advertised battery life was 180-240 minutes at launch...

The height of the 860TU concerns me but not the weight as my current one probably clocks in at over 7lbs with the 9-cell.

There is no discusison because there is no more to be had. Most of the discussions were based upon speculation, which we need no more of. And the questions we did have cant be answered until release so its just wait.

Now we wait to receive our laptops and besides how much we love it will hopefully not be posting here too often with any complaints on the system. :)

Hopefully that can last a year before the hype of a 13" laptop coming out with the power of a 17" :D

gavinh: first of all, why would you want such an awful analog output (s-video) when you have two excellent digital outputs (dvi and hdmi)? second, don't you think it's kind of unreasonable to expect the most powerful hardware on the market to ALSO be the most energy efficient? there has always been and always will be an inverse relationship between batter life and performance.

    ^--^
That hit it right on target for both points...

I think the other reason there is less discussion is those that wanted to pre-order have now done so, and are patiently (or maybe not so patiently) waiting for the delivered product.

Further, as has already been said, the speculation based on previous bad information is no longer necessary.

I'm sure there will be a lot more discussion once A: there's a review on the notebook and B: people (including myself) start getting their notebooks and can talk about them.

At this point, it's just wait and see.

Because like I said, most televisions in the world don't have HDMI/VGA in. While all the new flatscreens still have S-video.

I'm not expecting energy miracles from the NP8660 but I think a M755 CPU and MR9700 is pretty comparable to the P9500 and MHD3870 in that they were both very high performing configurations at their time of release.

I was just surprised that the top end 15.4" laptop today hasn't made much improvement on the efficiency of the top end 15.4" laptop 4 years ago. I'm not really seeing the power efficiency benefits of DDR3, 25W processors or newer mobile graphics cards.

I think about it a little differently - I imagine that, for a high performance gaming laptop (15.4" or otherwise), battery life is less important than raw gaming power.

Following this logic (which may not be correct), the manufacturers and designers of gaming laptops extract as much performance from the laptop as possible, with reduced battery life being the "plug" that solves the equation (i.e. what's the minimum battery life that is acceptable to someone who buys a gaming laptop).

For me, that number is about 1.5 hours.

    Petrov.

My guess is whatever is saved by the processor and RAM is consumed by the graphics card. For some reason, modern graphics cards devour large amounts of energy (and the laptop ones are relatively decent, you should see what the desktop cards consume...).

So is it safe to asume someone will review one soon or not?
I have stopped following the 860TU thread , much too long for me :p

They won't even be in the US until early August, so we won't see any reviews for several weeks yet.

paladin: if you guys (the resellers) arent getting the np8660 in until early august, does that mean that we (the consumers) may have to wait until mid-august to receive them?

is the adv battery life for using it with minumus brightness, no WiFi, no mouse, in a cold room, only DOS running and clocked so that DOS is the only thing it can run, or is it the battery life of average usage?

    1.5 hours on high performance
2.5 - 3 hours on balanced or power saver, I can't remember which one

That will depend on where you are and what shipping method you select.

All Sager will say at this point is that they EXPECT to begin shipping in early August.
