I got the 1920x1200 resolution of the screen for the M860TU, and as expected the icons, texts, etc. are really small. What can I do to make things more easy to read? Increasing the DPI in display settings makes everything big but ugly, is there any other way to make things bigger without sacrificing the smoothness of the icons?

if you are talking about desktop icons and text, you can just hold ctrl+mouse scroll up until you find a happy medium

actually im talking about everything, text and all, lol. is it possible?
-
uhhh, change the resolution in display settings??
-
kevindd992002 Notebook Virtuoso
and that will also make things ugly right? because its not using the native resolution of the screen?

You can increase the DPI. Right click on your desktop go to Personalize --> Adjust font size DPI.

As I've mentioned above, I already did increase the DPI, but the icons in the taskbar seems to be not smooth unlike when the screen is set to the default DPI.

It's just that that any icon, when the DPI is increased, seems not to be so smooth..

There's not much you can do, increase the DPI as they said and live with it or pull out a virtual magnifier whenever you want to read.

Are you on vista? You can check to make sure you have cleartype turned on (personally though, I dislike cleartype)

if cleartype is already on you could try this tip for 'xp style DPI scaling'

cleartype is enabled on my vista. i already tried the xp style dpi scaling (it's enabled by default when you increase the DPI setting". But still, the icons look horrible (ex. yahoo messenger icon) when you increase the DPI. any insights?

This is why I will never opt to go any thing bigger than 1680x1050 on a 15 inch screen. I've seen it in person and I wonder how people can deal with it. I don't care how much higher the resolution is I rather keep my eyes from burning up than gain a little bit more space.
kevin, I could be wrong, but no matter how you scale down it will never be as clear as your native resolution. -

Yah I think so. Actually I decided to go down to 1680x1050 before letting PCMW ship my laptop but they did not agree saying that the LCD is already setup in my laptop. Also, PCMW is claiming that their screens are ultra bright LCDs, are they really LCDs? Not CRT? How will I know? I have my M860TU from PCMW in front of me right now. Thanks.

Sorry for that stupid question, I was suppose to be asking on the comparison of LCD and LED screens, not CRT, lol. Are LED screens installed on commercially available laptops nowadays?
-
The clevos do not yet use LED screens, the main company that uses LED screens is _dell (and by implication _alienware)
-

Ah. Are these screens better in resolution and image quality overall?
-
They usually have better brightness and light distribution, although they don't offer them in 1920x1200, only 1440x900

Ahh. Thanks for that info..

Apple uses LED backlights, and they're popular on some other ultra-portables as well. Anyway, in answer to your original question, simply right click your desktop, go to view, and select "medium icons" or "large icons." That should take care of your desktop. For text, most web browsers (certainly firefox) have a zoom option. For things like word documents, you can just scale it to 150% or whatever you find most comfortable

How about for things like yahoo messenger?
m860tu screen resolution makes texts and icons small
