I am looking at an np9262 with 4gb or ram - it also says upgradable to 8gb of ram. Does anyone run 8gb ram in there sager? what type and any problems. I dont know alot about upgrading. I would hate to get it and then not be able to upgrade...This is the model with the quad core processor. thx!

Haa! Seriously, are you running 8gb? Does it only run 6.8 gb. I think i just read somewhere. not like I would cry over 6.8gb of ram. Right now I only have 3 of 4gb available. What mhz ram would I run? 667 or 800? Im trying to do a rough price estimate of upgrades.

Yes 8 GB. It depends on the chipset. The 9262 (D901C) supports 8 GB.

I think this one is a D900C model so that would not run the entire 8 gb but 6 something. Sorry, I know nothing about Sagers.. And nothing about upgrading. I usually buy them maxed out but I am trying to save a little money but NOT buying an Alienware!!! (or a lot of money)

You will need to be running 64-bit Windows. Otherwise, it will not recognize more than 6GB.
I'm running 8GB using 64Bit Windows Vista Pro. No problem at all.

32bit OS's can only see 3.2-3.4GB, not 6. The 6.8 issue was completely chipset related.

OP: I would find the 900C owners lounge and search through there.

If you're running an x9000 (as in your sig), then you DON'T have a D900/9262, you more likely have an M570RU/5793

the x9000 is in a separate laptop that I already own. I am looking for another. I am just seeing and asking questions so I can evaluate what would be the best solution for me for the long term. One of them being a sager np9262.

I was really liking the specs on
Clevo W880CU, 17.3", nVidia GTX 480M 2GB GDDR5, DVDRW but Im a little nervous about installing components. Is there a good resource on showing you the basics installing cpu, hdd's?

The standard manual that comes with the laptop has all the steps outlined in it, and for more in-depth guidance on how to replace every single part on the laptop there is a service manual available.
