I've just asked MySN.de about the maximum external display resolution of W150HR and W170HR. They said that the maximum external resolution is 1920x1200 / 60hz. They said that it's because of the Optimus and has nothing to do with the laptop.

    I have some questions:
    1. Is this true in practice? Is there nothing we can do to make these laptops work with a 2560x display?
    2. How is it possible that the Thinkpad T520 / W520 has no problem driving 2560x resolutions even with Optimus?
    3. Do you think this will change with the new nVidia 6 series?

It should work without any hickups.

Are you talking about the maximum external HDMI resolution? I would imagine that the HDMI exit would provide a higher resolution than the DVI output (not sure though).
