Why did Sager remove the 4k screen option on sager models, like the 8652? Last week it was there, now its gone? Is there a shortage?

They're probably clearing out all stock of 8652.... The 8652 is being replaced soon with a Skylake version which should have 4k screens... You missed it sadly so now you'll have to buy the new model if you want the 4k screen!

That would be my best guess as well... Sadly I had to stay with Haswell, can't even wait anymore. :(

Not sure the reasoning behind all of them down at once. But that is something you could always upgrade at a later time if you want to.

Really? Any 1080p screen can be upgraded to 4k, as long as the video card supports it?

If the motherboard is compatible with that panel type (eDP or LVDS), then yeah I believe so.

I wouldn't risk it.. The 1080p IPS screen from Xotic is LVDS... The 4k screen is eDP so motherboard might need the eDP connector which might not be soldered on and getting the eDP cable is difficult...

Very bad advice there the reason being the remaining models are the ones that could not be upgraded to 4k screens.

The 4K is indeed eDP. It will run on an eDP system, but only if that supports 4-lanes (8 data wires) and not merely the 2-lane (4 wires) for 1080p (minimum requirement). Most Clevos have 4-lane connectors, so that's good, at least, but the lcd cable itself does have to be populated fully; wires are left out to save cost if these aren't going to be used ($0.05 saved is $0.05 earned ... :vbfrown: ). A quick look at the cable will tell you soon enough:

LVDS 4k is not possible with laptops; desktop monitors use dual connectors to make this work (2x2-channel) and don't think there's a single laptop that has two lvds connectors on its motherboard. Not to mention, there's not a single screen that would fit.

As to why ' eDP -> lanes' and ' LVDS -> channels' ... your guess is as good as mine :vbconfused: .

I wasn't saying that any model of computer could upgrade to a 4k screen, but the 8652 in particular. The ones that did have it available, and it was removed.

It may be due to stock ordering and the panel being used across all the models, sager really don't like holding stock for any period of time.
