i was looking for clevo's and I found these guys.

they aren't fancy dancy like paint and graphics.. just plain o'le clevo. with not even hardcore base items..

    http://www.pugetsystems.com/certified_sys.php?sys_id=83

and they start at over 4k.

    :D

the price compared to the clevo i got from eurocom is $4,463.97

compared to the 3100 i paid.

    lol,

these guys have the list price with a line through it like they are giving you a huge deal

    http://www.malibal.com/products/laptops/configuration/series9.shtml

they say the list price is $9,999.00

Yeah, the second one is probably some sort of weird Clevo reseller. The first one is an Australian reseller if I'm not mistaken and still a weird one :).

If the first one is Australian, then you need to make sure you're getting the quote in US dollars instead of Australian dollars. The exchange rate isn't that big right now, but one US dollar is worth approximately 1.07 AUS dollar (which would probably be a little higher on the retail exchanges, say ballpark of about AUS$1.1 to each US$1).

If the price of $4,463.97 was in fact stated in AUS dollars, that would be the equivalent of about $4,058 to $4,182 US dollars (with a spread on the exchange rate of 1.1 to 1.067... respectively).

Malibal, from what I can gather, is just another super-boutique like Voodoopc or Hypersonic-pc, although Malibal's cutesy little games with pricing (like drawing lines through obviously inflated prices, as you've indicated) seems a little cheezy - Voodoopc is just (in my humble little 1.5-cent opinion) rather smarmy, like with their naming and advertising (oooh, "Envy F:121" with a pic showing some ersatz samurai bowing before the system  ).

Wait guys...the first one comes with nVidia Intel 8800M SLI 2x 512 MB stock and that's not changeable.

Also Vista is standard, but still, the price seems a little high considering all the other hardware sucks.

I still am in awe that people buy from these kind of companies without researching and ultimately figuring out they are getting ripped off! :)

Sorta like perfume - heavy on the "emotional" "you're joining the family" stuff (or was that the mob? :D ), and short on the rational cost/benefit analysis stuff (the "boring" stuff that hip artistic types just cannot be bothered with ;) ).

Probably wouldn't have been so "down" with the g/f if he hadn't blown $7,500 on a notebook that should only have cost about $4,000 - that wasted $3,500 could have been spent on the g/f - no doubt she'd have been pretty "up" by then.

Shyster, that dude is probably 16 years old and his parents must be loaded(with BS also) . If you educate a kid in such a way that money means nothing to him, may God forbid that he will become a sort of leader...

I know the type all too well, unfortunately (when I was a foreign-service brat growing up in the 70s in places like Lagos they were usually the snotty little ankle-biters of political appointees - here today, gone today).
