So it doesnt matter if I use full ssd or msata ssd as I will get same speeds.
I was under impression that msata port is only sata2 and will be slower than ssd

It was in the old models when the chipsets only supported 2 sata III ports. The new models allow more so they have all the ports running at the higher speed.

I use a 256gb Plextor M5M in my mSATA. That seems to be the most recommended one here as far as price/performance.

While Plextor is surely good, I would strongly suggest 2 other candidates before that:

    Samsung 841
    Intel 525

Both are better than the plextor as far as performance goes. Price is higher, but it's worth it.

Exclude 525 if you are gonna use with full disk encryption or similar (bitlocker, etc...), since the Sandforce-based controllers (intel is a SF) sucks with incompressible data.

Some of the Samsung 841 models use TLC (read that somewhere...). Also, in some tests, the M5M is faster. Plus, you can't buy them. They are OEM only. That means no warranty if your MSata SSD fails.
Intel 525 is useless if you use encryption, like you said.

Therefore, the M5M is the best. :p

All Samsung PM841 are TLC. Mythlogic confirmed through a rep and Samsung confirmed through e-mail. So look to 840 non-pro reviews for an idea about performance at the capacity you are interested in. And don't buy 120-128GB Samsungs PM841, 840 TLC, 840 Pro. Big latency issues.

Intel 525 240GB & Plextor M5M in 256GB should be fine. Smaller drive worse performance in Plextors.

The 512GB PM841 is the MSata version of the 840 Pro, so that should have MLC.

    Nope, Samsung confirmed in a reply e-mail the PM841 is TLC NAND. same as the 840. The specs on samsung.com PM841 mSATA 512GB sequential R/W 540/330MB/s. From tweaktown.com specs for 840 500GB 530/330MB/s, specs for 840 Pro 512GB 540/520MB/s.

    I stand corrected, haha.

Mythlogic labels the 512GB version of the PM841 as the MSata version of the 840 pro.

This is why I would recommend the M500 over the PM841 if you can get to the larger capacities. (lower densities the M500 falls off faster in performance).
