    Hello guys.
Sad to report, that after 7 years or so my radeon card 7970M finally seems to be toasted.
I was playing dota2 ad suddenly everytihng froze, only hard shut down worked and on start i never get to the login (password emtry) screen, Pc gets stuck again.
After some hours the only way, *even tryied PC reste in windows 10*, to recover PC was to safe mode and disable the radeon card.
Reinstalling, uninstalling, even baking the card didnt work.
SO i am pretty convinced the card is broken.
The only thing i havent try is installing older drivers, some older catalyst driver, just because i dont know were to find any (any links for this?)

This said i come to you in hopes you may help me find a video card replacement, either the same or a better one? And tips as to where to buy the card.
I live in Chile so here going to the store and buying a 7970M its not an option.
Any help or tip to buy a new card would be appreciated, my rig is in my signature, onyl diff is ram its now 32.
Upgrading the card would be nice but i am not sure i would be able to flash my bios.

You don't need to flash BIOS in order to run a newer card. Do you want best bang for the buck or best performance?

best bang for the buck HD 8970M
    best performance GTX 1060

The 1060 should be more reliable over the long term.

Ok, but if i want to change to nvidia sure i need to flash bios or change some other hardware right? I am willing to try, but not sure where i can buy any of those cards new or used, but making sure i will be able to use them. Any links or ideas? Even flashing shouldnt be such a huge problem (i think).

what baffles me is that the card is still detected by windows and Hwinfo, but if i enable it the screen and laptop freeze quickly, maybe there is something that i havent done to recover it?

A broken card will load the drivers and crash when it tries to process anything and outputs garbage.

Open bottom, remove heatsink, clean heatsink, remove old card, place in new card, apply thermal paste, screw down heatsink, replace bottom panel.

That would be the physical order of operations. The cards have been suggested but we don't sell those particular parts.

sure i know how to switch the cards (i baked mine yesterday, lol), but dont have a single clue were i can buy one, so i am stuck anyhow.

Anyone know were I can find any video card compatible with my rig, that I can buy and work with?

Ah and FYI HWinfo show my radeon card and displays (besides the normal sensor data:

GPU Memory Errors 137,438,953,440 (current, minimum and maximum),

I guess that pretty much confirms the card is DEAD, usefull for people not sure their card is fried, if my line of thought is correct.. so u stop trying to find drivers or reinstall windows..D

Also FYI I am the one to blame if my card died, some months ago i reinstalled windows and never reinstalled any temp monitors for my card, so i wasnt really paying attention (since its winter here)... and i paid the cost.

He likes of eBay is your best bet looking for a standard mxm card rather than anything a different shape.

Oh well thanks any other hint would be nice. Found some items in ebay but they range aroun US 1000 to et, not even including eventaul taxes i will have to pay to get it here. I think a new laptop is a better chocie, i found some bit over US$1400 with 1060M included.

Funny, I just tried putting 8970m mxm and 1060 mxm into eBay and came up with multiple international results for each. Take your time and don't rush the search, none were close to $1000 so I don't know how you managed to find that.

I live in Chile (south america).
I have taken my tiem in ebay and so far i only found these:
    https://www.ebay.com/itm/Clevo-P570...R40&rt=nc&_trksid=m570.l1313&LH_TitleDesc=0|0

Yes its not 1000, but around 700 (including shipmen, and the seller doesnt have any kind of reference.

The 8970M has more options but i am not sure they will be compatible with my rig, this one for example? I think its only for MSI ..

    https://www.ebay.com/itm/MSI-GX60-G...7675.m570.l1313.TR2.TRC0.A0.H0.XHD+8970M.TRS0

this price is affordable if its compatible i might risk it.

He seems to be guaranteeing it as a Clevo card. Contact him.
