-
-
lol... duke nukem 3d.. anyhow... Will you posting pictures? I
-
yea def...ill even post the FPS counter that is built in the game. I think it will run on this laptop =P
-
Congratulations on the machine. Should be a great machine.
-
this machine came in the mail today.....its dead pixel free...runs every game i throw at it without hiccups. is quiet.I love this machine and its widescreen! I have one question though...im trying to use microsoft office 2007 but its asking me for a key..how do i get it? is it the product key in the back of my laptop? I never got a Office CD so i can rule out that.
-
Did you pay for the Office 2007?
if you did, then you are entitled to have the package and CD-Key for it
if not, then uninstall/remove it. -
well i do need it though so i guess i should hold on to the pre-installed version and buy the key another time.
-
Is it as heavy or as loud as you thought it would be? ...or is it quiet? Does it get hot? Would you carry it around? Is it really thick? Pics?
Sorry for so many questions, I'm thinking about getting one over the m570ru for the faster CPU and upgradability. -
Its got the fully compatible alternatives to:
- Word
- Excel
- PowerPoint
... and more -
all in all this is a very good laptop! welll actually this is my first laptop ever so this is very new to me hehe. now my concern is on the battery....i cant just leave the laptop plugged in 100% of the time right? -
haha, lemme give you my pre-requisites for owning a high-end notebook:
Remember these things to have your notebook be healthy for years:
1) Battery: to maintain the longevity of any rechargeable battery
- you must NEVER overcharge it [especially for long durations of time] by keeping it plugged into AC
- when it reaches 100% you should unplug it and let it discharge to 5-15%, then plug it back to power
- OR you can just charge it to 50%+ and remove the battery and store in cool place [remember to use it occasionally to charge and discharge it].
2.) Heat: to prevent a healthy notebook from overheating
- ALWAYS use the notebook on a hard & flat surface
- RECOMMENDED to be used on a notebook cooler... namely the Zalman ZM-NC1000
- (for Clevo's) ALWAYS use the Fan Speed Toggle (Fn+F2) to switch all fans in the notebook to Max Speed (defaults at Auto Speed) when gaming and such.
- check your fans underneath occasionally (at least once a month) for any dust clogs [clean them out with Q-tips and air cans/compressors]
- ALWAYS monitor the temps (CPU, GPU, HDD, etc..) to watch for fluctuations, which would indicate overheating
By doing these simple things, your entire system will easily last for more than 3 years. -
Just to add to Gophn's post... Watch what kind of surface you use for a desk.. These big suckers on a wood desk will create a lot of heat stored into the wood on the underside, which will just get sucked back up into the machine not letting it max the cooling...
While it doesn't always make to much difference to the system, it can often make a difference for how warm the keyboard and wrist area will get, which adds to your enjoyment while using the machine while gamin.. I mean hard at work for your studies! -
-
use a notebook cooler.... very recommended to prevent heat issues
-
What Gophn said..
Basically you can tell if it's good or bad by running your machine on the desk for a bit, then move and feel the desk..
I used to keep mine on a metal keyboard tray that had holes in it, so it worked well, glass is usually pretty good..
Since I slipped a disk in my back about 2 months ago I re-ergonimized my life (trademarked work!) I've got a notebook arm that let's me do just about whatever I want, so I can use my machine fully reclined in my Zero-G chair
Anyways, that is trending off topic.. When in doubt, use a notebook cooler... You spent enough on the computer, you should be able to bleed a couple more bucks into the proper care -
my quyestion is that the sager 9260 is huge and will this cooler fit the whole thing and cool it? im wondering if its actually compatible with this huge thing. -
-
if its anything like the m570u which i have when its almost silent like that its running with less power and as many users suggested here keep the fans on max to prevent overheating more so thats wut i do ... you get use to the noise
-
is it safe to keep the fans at max speed all the time?
-
-
is it safe to plug in the power to the laptop when it is on after it is down to 85% battery?
-
-
-
Ok, really sorry for going way off topic but ugg...I want to know, how do you pronounce your name Gophn?
-
-
I just say "go-fin" or something similar.
-
You can actually Google it and find stuff about me.
I created this alias back in 1996 and have kept it. I was originally known when writing game F.A.Q.s for Marvel VS Capcom 2, beta testing, etc... I entered tourneys and competed for years in the Capcom arcade circuit.
Then I went PC, I am the only Gophn in the world as far as I know.
the name is pronounced:
gawf-in
(or)
gŏf-in
It does not matter really.
If you know who I am in person, then you will know the reason for the Alias... I think only Chaz might have a chance of knowing here in NBR.
P.S. If I get successful and get out my books (that I am currently writing), then I will reveal my true identity in them. If all goes well, I will be on Forbes or Fortune magazine in 2-3 years. -
-
-
is it bad to leave my laptop on with the power cable in? it says that it is on ac power so that means it isnt using the battery right?
-
Overcharging and Not letting a battery discharge to around 5-10% will only result in the decrease in the longevity of ANY battery, not just notebooks. -
-
its has to discharge all the way down to 5-15%. (pretty much as close to empty as possible)
-
-
you have to be mindful.
Whenever the battery is fully charged to around 100%, just unplug it and do your work until the battery nears empty... this is where you want to plug it back into power.
And do not leave it plugged in overnight.
Not to be so strict, but this is what is required to have a notebook battery retain its healthy and longevity.
I guess its ok to leave it plugged in overnight once in a while, but you must keep in mind that the more you overcharge, the worse the battery will become.
If you are just going to have it in one place for a long time, just make sure that the battery is charged 50%+, remove it, and store it in a cool place.
Just remember to use the battery occasionally (once a month) to fully charge and discharge it. -
if i fully discharge a battery wouldnt that make the pc shut off and loss or even curropt data? or is there a way around that?
-
You can set it to Hibernate or Shutdown or StandBy when the battery is critical at 5%.
Its all in the Power Options. -
that helps a lot! thanks i found an its set to shutdown when it reaches a critical battery low of 3%. now that i found this i am just being patient for my notebook cooler is coming tomorrow.Im getting the one you recommended.
-
nice, the Zalman is easily the best 17" notebook cooler around.
I am still testing new ones, so far most of them have been disappointing. -
is there a way to disable power save? it gets annoying if im playing Command and Conquer 3 and it slows down because of wacky power save.
-
i ordered my notebook cooler yesterday although i didn't go witht he zalman i got the
BYTECC Notebook Cooling Pad ( Aluminum ) Powered by USB port Model NC-500 (USB)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834999336
seemed like a good choice ill let you kno when it arrives tuesday! -
-
is there anything dangrous about doing that other than shorter battery length?
-
no real danger
The Powermizer is more for basic and average notebook with Nvidia videocard.
For a high-end, it does not matter. The videocard(s) are already high-end and have high power consumption, regardless of the Powermizer setting... very insignificant. -
just got the cooling panel and man is it light! btw the sager 9260 has rubbery corners which case it to incline. should i position the laptop so that it is closest to the bottom of the cooling panel?
-
so should place it to your comfort preference... as long as the fans underneath has air flow.
Also remember to improve the cool by Toggling the Fan Speed (Fn + 1) when you are gaming. -
i love it one question...does a cooler computer also mean more stables frames per second on a game?
-
But it will help to ensure no overheats so that the entire system will stay stable... which indirectly affects the performance of the notebook overall.
With heat problems, peak temps will cause GPU's to downclock.. which loses 50%+ of the framerate... I know. -

Thus far from my testing the D900C has proved to be quite the gaming machine; the cooling system is very well designed and I have had no heat issues with it.
my sager 9260 is coming tomorrow!
