    so I bought a np8150 with a 6990m back in dec.

I never monitored temps that much as they were fine, I rmaed my notebook and they sent it back on fire I ran a game for about 2 min and temps hit 100. so I shut off my system tried again...same thing happened so I undervolted to .9 that help a bit but they were still high 90s. so i went out and bout startech silver oxide compound put it on and now my temps are in the high 80s at 1v.

I ordered ICD and should be getting it soon, do you think ill ever be able to run at stock clocks and voltages ever again?

s0 after the rma their was 0 dust and was mint(1 month ago)

what do you guys think I got dud thermal paste and icd will help greatly or could it be a defective gpu?

Could be a bad paste job or GPU not completely tightened ( I have heard a few horror stories lately about shoddy work). Check the screws to see it they are loose. If not, then when you repaste, you will see if the paste is properly applied.

What did you have to RMA your computer for? Was it CPU/GPU related where they had to reseat the heat sink or transfer pipes? It sounds like it could not have been put back on properly. Since you've gotten a big improvement by repasting you should have no problems running it back on the voltage its supposed to be. Sounds like a bad paste job when you got it back

I tired stock voltage and see 100 rather quickly. I dont think it was a bad paste job or heatsinks ect I think it was just the kind of paste they used.

when my ICD arrives how should I do it..how tight should the screws be and how much should i use. and what should I expect for temps if its done properly. 70s 80s or 90s.....its just weird having to underclock my gpu and still see 92c with turbo fan on.

I used the same method 3 times .... no air proper contact ect..

I just ran vantage for 1 run with turbo fan on and it reached 103c

I have it proped up on glass room is cold 20c.

Im sure ICD will help..I think this paste is dud pase and im better off using jam or peanut butter.

i really think its problem with the card, not the paste, even with a dud paste the temperature shouldnt be that high

I thought so but it wasnt always this way. i used to get 72-74 max in games with ICD when I had it.

right now untl the ICD arrives I have it undervolted and at stock clocks and dont break 90 so its all good as they say. still a powerful card at stock

well usually id say high 30s to low 40s at idle and low 80s at full load and fan turbo (like in furmark or kombustor). normal benching like with vantage shouldnt get higher than 70s.

    thanks alot.

I have a temp work around for whenmy ICD arrives.

0.96v (730/1030) max temp 86 on a cooling pad with cover off lol..

such extreme measures for something that should run at stock voltages and clocks without a fan ect ect..

i dont get it, these cards are designed to run at stock in these machines, you shouldnt have to compensate by undervolting it. the card is obviously defective, doesnt seem like paste issue, why dont you RMA it?

and if he gets round to running the benchmarks and posting them we can tell by the scores if the card is defective.

woohoo I got my ICD this afternoon.

well I have yet to see 91 .

normally i see 100 or high nineties now see low 70s highs of 85c.

    made a huge differance.

whats a good benchmark thats realistic and what would be good temps for it

I need help from someone. I applies ICD three times using the 5mm drop method. I see temps reach 91-92c but at stock voltage this time...seems a bit high if you ask me...any ideas would be greatly apreciated.

ok I did something differant. I put on that crappy temmal paste just a dab then a dap of ICD in the center. I then just screwed it in moderately.

cold boot. 3d mark vantage 1st run 74c second run 76c
just cause 2 maxed benchmark 80/81
crysis maxed 10 min stablized at 85/86c

so i saw a drop of 5c and thats enough for me so im done here. now its time to undervolt
