From this it seems like it's still bouncing between 718.5/1800 and idle clock zone. There's another way to do it, use GPU-Z to monitor and select Log to file and see if the voltage is 0.962v when the core clock bumps up to 718.5MHz after the game is launched, if it is, then the game is using the GTX680M, if it's still 0.987v, then the game is not using the GTX680M.

Edit: Your GTX680M is actually being used, but the utilization @718.5/1800 is only 20-25%, it's probably why it keeps bouncing between 405/800 @60% and 781.5/1800 @20% as the game is using so little of the GTX680M.

looking at the gpuz notepad readout theres nothing that shows the voltage or 0.962v

think it time to give up tonight :D thanks for the help so far.

It's at the very far right column, should say VDDC [V] on the top of the column and show 0.9620 for the value.

    DOH! majority is 0.8370 and then one ot two at a time are 9870 / 8750 / 8870 / 9000 / 8620 / 9870 / 8370 / 9120 / about 30 9250 and then back to the previous.

0.8370 and 0.9120 are the voltages for idle clock and 2D clock, the game probably isn't usage heavy enough for the GTX680M to run using 3D clock zone, so it decided to downclock. That's probably why you GTX680M's temperature is so low.

hope these readings are more to your liking. 89c is more like it.

it just reminded me why i hated B3 multiplayer. no wonder i havnt played it since last year.

Indeed, 80+C is a normal degree for a GPU while gaming. I was shocked at first that you mentioned you game on 50-60C, while I game on 60-70+C, especially since I've read the 17" has better cooling..

But yeah, that is more like what I've thought.

And yeah, I hate multiplayer and FPS multiplayer is the worst of the worst. If you want to lower your self esteem that much just listen to a repeating MP3 file that constantly yells at you: 'You suck! You're worthless! Nobody loves you!' :p

shows that mw3 is not that demanding as only 30 minutes of bf3 and its up in the 80s

might well be time to get all the old games out again and play the campaigns again.
crysi/crysis warhead/rainbow 6 vegas/ and then all the cod franchise. that will keep me going for a while.

    thanks for your help mate.

89C is a little hot for a GTX680M by the way, my GTX680M tops out at 77C after BF3 3hr session when I was testing, which, was 81C max for the GTX675M under the same condition, are your CPU and GPU using stock paste?

i have no idea but im guessing so as there was no option to upgrade. its about 28c in my room today so ambient temps could have something to do with it.

My room temperature is around 27C right now, in the UK too. So your laptop is basically using the factory stock paste that can't even deliver 2W/mk.

You might be interested in doing a repaste with decent thermal pastes (those can conduct at least 4.5~11.2W/mk) :p

The common ones you can get in the UK through online method are:

    Prolimatech PK-3 (11.2W/mk)
    Prolimatech PK-2 (10.2W/mk)
    Prolimatech PK-1 (10.2W/mk)
    Arctic MX-4 (8.5W/mk)
    Gelid Extreme (8.5W/mk)
    Innovative Cooling Diamond 7 (4.5W/mk)

thanks for the offer but im not doin any pasting myself. i can be a stuborn bugger at times.
if it cant handle the temperatures then it goes straight back. its what we pay warranty for.

just played a hour of sngle b3 campaignand still the same.

I really advise you to repaste - you should barely hit 80°C with the 680M@stock playing BF3 MP!
They must have used stock paste to have such temps, 680M runs really cool @ stock voltage, but a bit hot when overvolted!

I have question for both guys. Optimus work with yours laptop? I'm interested about power draw idle and full load 3d mark 2006 or Vantage.

pau1ow: Is hard got GTX 680m to MSI 1762 barebone? What modification do you did? ( bios, hetsink atc.)
What about fan noise idle MSI 1762? Cpu vent running or not?
Because AW M17x R4 is when idle very silent - vent mostly off. ( 31db).

    Thank you.

    Hear hear!

I'm with you on this. Why not start waving palm leaves to keep your laptop cool and feed it grapes while you're at it? :p

This is a gaming laptop. A machine. While I won't disregard standard maintenance to keep it in good working order, I still paid for this stuff in order to play games and have fun, not to slave over it or worry about it so much that I'll be afraid of taxing it. As long as it does what it's supposed to be doing, it's all good. If there's an issue - that's what the warranty is for. That line of thinking is exactly why I don't care that much about benchmarking - if it plays my games optimally, then it's good enough for me :)

MrDJ, have you contacted mysn about this as they have been very helpful with the questions I have asked them and extemely quick to respond? It seems this has only come up as your temps were at first seemingly too low ad that there seems to be no stability issues.

pau1ow - it is extremely hot in the UK today and it does seem like his GPU is running hotter than it should, however it's a bit rich for another company representative to tell the forum what thermal paste a company is or isn't using when you actually have no idea. If it needs repasting it doesn't necessarily mean mysn use "stock paste". Not a good idea to make negative comments about other companies......

No one mentioned benchmarking, however a GTX680M running at 89C @ stock clock stock voltage while in BF3 is abnormal even with room temperature 28C.

Optimus does work - it switches automatically to the 680M when a 3d load is detected - power draw @ idle is 50-60W (from the wall) and while playing BF3 with the GPU overclocked to 1000/2525, it's between 160W and 185W! Also after a wild BF3 session, max temps are 84°C for both CPU (with Throttlestop)/GPU!

To get the 680M in the 1762, you need to flash to the newest BIOS and just modify a bit the pads fittings on the heatsik - nothing really difficult. It is totally silent @ idle, the fan must be running at 2% speed, I simply can't hear it. Idle temps are great: 35°C for GPU and 38°C for CPU (ambient temps about 26°C)

They do - it doesn't only depend on the thermal paste but also on how it's been applied...if you go from a stock paste + crap setup to high conductivity paste + correct setup, temps can well lower down to 10°C...

lol I switched back to 3610QM ! The 3820QM was actually OK while doing CPU benchmarking BUT when I was gaming, because the 1762 has a single fan, it couldn't handle both crazy heat dissipated by the CPU (3820) and GPU (680M, 1.012v, 1000/2525)...
For comparison, i had my temps maxed out to 96°C for CPU and 88°C for GPU...also, my mate just ran a Cinebench with his 3610QM with and without TS5.0, and basically got 6° difference  not sure that affects gaming too...

Optimus works fine but yeah those numbers in the review look too good to be true - I don't have such but my figures are got right now with dual screen, backlit keyboard, brightness to 100% and browsing-skyping!

There's no manual switchable graphics unfortunately, both iGPU and dGPU are muxed as with the Clevo's EM.

May I remind you that this is 89 C and not 99 C? And this is a short lapse during high load in a hot day? You're taking it too far. You don't have to maximize every thing to the utmost perfect performance. If it floats your boat, sure, but not as standard operability.

And the benchmarking topic is just a small joke between MrDJ and me, that's all.

No one has mentioned anything about maximizing everything, 89C @ stock clock is the highest temperature I've ever seen on a GTX680M that runs at stock clock stock voltage. I'm one of the NBR members that have actually held and tested the GTX680M earlier than most NBR members from stock clock to various clock, and I can tell you the first impression with the GTX680M was that the card only maxed out at 77C after a long BF3 session (3hr at least) without any cooler support. Even at 853/2400 it didn't go above 84C. Moreover, it was with a P150EM.

I know, I remember, you ran some tests for me with Skyrim when you just got it :)

I'm not questioning your technical knowledge about the Sager/Clevo for one second. And that indeed may be less than optimal results, all things considered. But I think this is still no reason for a concern about his laptop's well being.

Anyway, I'm just not too fond of this whole drama behind temps, but that is just my personal opinion and I mean no disrespect :)

Did you contact the support team? What did they say ?

Today I was talking to them about the thermal paste they use and what all stuff they do to take care of heating issues..

I hope they are sorting out your issue..

Btw.. my demon (p702) is arriving to London today :)

Hi Guys.. I received my P702 today at my office.. they did it really fast..

I had ordered it on 14th and they had it shipped on 17/18th. I was bit nervous as to how come they did it so fast when they had already told me the build time would be 5-7 days. I asked the support guys today if its built from scratch and not a refurbished one (just to be sure) and he assured me that it is freshly built and the quick turn around was because they are less busy during this time of the year..

Anyways.. I'm happy I got it before GW2 is release :)
Will go home today and install Win7 and all the games..

    :D

    congratulations mate.
pics and benchmarks as soon as possible :D

    few more bits from me:

im loving my standard screen which imo is perfect.
the keyboard sure is taking some time to get used too as its a total different layout that im used to and im missing quite a few letters or space.
yes the speakers arent great. i was about to buy an x-fi card but plugging my external speakers into the headphone socket sure does make a difference.
just read on here that if you plug your green lead (front speakers) into your headphone socket and your yellow lead (bass and rear) into your mic socket they will all work so im going to test it out tonight.

i had an hour on B3 again last night and am still getting 88c with the 680 so its defo going back for checks. just got to decide if i can afford to take another day off leave or rma by courier :(

Has anyone tried to remove the silver sticker XMG-logo from the top of the lid? Does it peel off nicely?

Pics & Bench Marks -- Sure thing :)

Sorry to hear about your temp issues... If they are going to do the checks here in London and if they agree to do it same time then maybe you should carry it in and bring it back the same day.

no idea as mine is plain. are you not liking the xmg logo as when i take mine in they were going to replace the lid as well.

i know but im running out of anual leave. its a 50 mile journey around the dreaded M25 and coming back on the day of the opening ceromany was not a good idea as it took me almost 4 hours for an hour journey. theres also roadworks which didnt help.

Well, the logo is not so bad but I think I'd still prefer a clear lid with its more sophisticated look :D. Also, if it ever starts to peel off from places (it cosists of multiple little stickers) I might as well remove the whole thing.

Recently our XMG logo is printed and not made out of stickers anymore. We only use stickers in very rare cases. The new black printed XMG logo does not peel of and it looks very subtle. :)
