nVIDIA GeForce 9 series due Febr. 2008

It seems that the first nVIDIA's new GeForce 9 graphics cards are due in February 2008. These will be Direct X10.1 cards, contrary to the present nVIDIA cards that only support DirectX 10.

With some luck only one MB upgrade is necessary for the Penryn CPU's and the new nVIDIA cards???

I'm not interested in gaming, instead I would like to have a graphics card designed for high quality TV work and have a HDMI 1.3 port. So far only the ATI X2000 series have this. These are the only graphics cards that support Dolby TrueHD and DTS Master HD audio over HDMI. By the way, these cards are DirectX 10.1 compatible.

 

Assuming the rumored date does not get pushed back, I believe the date is for desktop cards, not laptop cards.

 

Don't count on 9-series laptop cards around the same time as the desktop ones, it takes around 8 months on average for laptops to catch up.

 

yea, i was just going to say.... the 8800 for notebooks didnt even fully arrive yet, and this is only the desktop release..

 

well, we may see a low end 9xxx series card sooner than that, but it is safe to assume that the enthusiest version (like the 8800m gtx) will not be available for a very long time. Not only that, but it probably wont be worth the upgrade to something from the 8800m gtx to a 9xxx card until they release a monster graphics (example is upgrading from the 7950gtx to a 8400/8600 and arguably the 8700 cards). The 8800m gtx will be on top for the notebook market for a while to come in my opinion.

 

Well if you wanna wait a year... good luck... but i think the 8800m will be the fastest video card for a long time... (except if they make 8900m/8950m)

 

The 8800M GTX will be the last 8th series for laptops. You can bet on that.
The 9th series will most likely debute somewhere in winter next year,just as the 8th series for laptops showed up after about a year from the desktop releases.

I don't think it will but that is just me. They will not wait 12 months to launch another card considering that the desktops version are out on February and we are still on in December (I believe that in 4 (April) to 5 months (May) we will have another one ending this serie.

I never heard of a mobile GPu with a higher series # than a desktop GPU. Unless the release the 8900 GTX for desktop, I DON'T BELIEVE THERE WILL BE ANY OTHER MOBILE GPU from the 8th series . I have nvidia history to back up that assumption.

 

I would not expect another 8xxx mobile card. In fact I would not expect another mobile card until May-June. Nvidia is getting faster but not that much faster. Besides the first cards out are not anywhere near the standards of the high end cards by gaming standards.

 

Yeah, the low to mid range 9series will be out around the 2nd quarter of next year to go along with the Montevina/Cantiga chipset. The main thing is that they will be DX10.1 compatible and will consume somewhat less power. Possibly using GDDR4. It's not going to be a huge performance boost. The goal is to increase perfromance slightly while consuming less power and using smaller silicon dies.

 

it will most likely be the difference alike the 7950 vs 8700, only not so hyped.
