I just received my Sager NP9150 / Clevo P150EM that I ordered from Xotic PC

I installed the drivers on the supplied driver/utility disk.

I noticed that the nVidia drivers were out of date (306.97) as nVidia shows the latest for my card is 310.70. I have a nVidia GeForce GTX 670MX 3,072MB PCI-Express GDDR5 DX11 with Optimus

I went to the nVidia website and ran the scan detection utility and it says, "Your product manufacturer requires you to download a driver for your device from their website"

I went to sagernotebook.com and looked up drivers for my laptop, but the only drivers they show for the NP9150 are the 680M.

Is it OK to manually download the drivers from the nVidia website?

Depending on the version of Windows you're running you're looking for the one labeled

NVIDIA Video Driver for Windows 8 32/64 BIT or

Video drivers for Windows 7 64 BIT

Yes, it is perfectly okay to download from the component manufacturer's site. It's recommended that you create a restore point prior to upgrading the driver, just in case the driver gives you any problems; having a restore point will provide an alternative to rolling the driver back or uninstalling it altogether, just to re-install the older one.

    I am running Windows 8 Pro 64-bit

The Sagernotebook driver webpage (as of 1/4/13) shows the following for Windows 8 on NP9150:

Intel Video Driver for Windows 8 32/64 BIT 9.17.10.2843 25-Oct-12
NVIDIA Video Driver for Windows 8 32/64 BIT 9.18.13.546 25-Oct-12

Are these the same as on the NVIDIA website? Not sure why the driver versions are different.

    My device manager shows:
Intel HD Graphics 4000 Driver version 9.17.10.2867 (appears newer than on the Sager webpage?)
Nvidia GeForce GTX 670MX Driver version 9.18.13.697 (appears newer than on the Sager webpage?)

My NVIDIA Control panel shows I have Driver version 306.97

The NVIDIA webpage shows that an update of was released 310.70

    Confused here ;)

Nvidia will always have the latest releases as they're the ones that release them. Manufacturers post on their page older but stable versions which are a good bet to stick with if you experience any problems with the latest drivers from the card manufacturers. Basically, you can download from either but generally the component manufacturer is the best place to go. If you experience any trouble, use the one from the computer manufacturer.

Anytime! And if I'm not mistaken, NVidia should have a software package that will auto-update to the most recent WHQL (stable release) driver when available.

BETA drivers you will need to download manually through your browser.

i updated mine and wish i hadnt.
suppliers dont always keep their website graphics drivers upto date as they are always being updated so its always worth keeping an eye on nvidia as they released 5 drivers in nov/dec alone.

this is where i get mine and they have the last 10- 20 drivers available NVIDIA Driver Downloads - Advanced Search
also i normally post on here as soon as i get a chance when they are released.

a lot of oem suppliers recommend sticking with the drivers they have loaded to start with as they are the ones that they test with at the time of prduction/burn in test BUT as gamers we want the best for our lappys so we update at the first opportunity to see if latest drivers give better fps in game.

on my previous clevo i would update as soon as a new driver became available and never had a problem in 4 years. but i had problems with my first update from stock drivers on my P150 and had to do a system restore as a manual load would fail each time which i had never had a problem with before.
ive updated twice now and all seems back to normal.

also as Derek@xoticpc and Prostar have posted above you can ignore what ive written and update to your hearts content :D

sometimes it helps and sometimes it doesnt.

most importantly enjoy your new P150

i just bought a sager np9150 special edition from xoticpc

everything is running fantastic, but i noticed something

if i execute dxdiag it shows intel hd graphics 4000 and not gtx 680 as graphic device

also in windows 7 evaluation it shows hd graphics 4000 as graphic device

is this normal? or is a driver problem

    thanks

This is normal because of Optimus. The computer is probably using the Intel 4000 when you are checking it in those programs. If you turn on a game it should switch over to the Nvidia card automatically then show that.

as Hutsady explained, it uses optimus so for general use it will use the HD4000 and as soon as you do something demanding it will auto switch to the nvidia 680

lates WHQL Nvidia released 2 days ago > http://forum.notebookreview.com/sag...-310-90-notebook-released-jan-5th-2013-a.html

you could also check out my signature below which has some very useful monitoring tools. download nvidia inspector, msi afterburner and core temps which will monitor your temperatures and msi will show you how well your 680 is running.

once you get used to your new lappy download futuremark 3dmark11/vantage and run some benchmarks to compare to others with the same model as you.

most importantly enjoy your new lappy :D
