Hi, have you check to see if the BIOS see if it finds that you have a hard drive installed. If not then you don't have a hard drive in your system.

Obviously he's got a hard drive...

XP does not have SATA drivers, so whenever you try to install XP on a SATA hd, the installation will not detect your hard drive. Doesn't mean it's not there. It just means you have to make it detect it, and you do this in the BIOS by disabling the AHCPI compatibility. When you do this, it will recognize the drive and install XP.

After the install, if you want your SATA drive to work at its full, you need to install its SATA drivers. Then you can go back to the BIOS and enable the AHCPI and be back to normal.

well, the problem is that there is no such option to disabling AHCPI...the only place I see AHCPI is under Advanced>Advanced Chipset Control>intel Robson>AHCI config, but it is in "gray" and I cannot do anything about it.
spent 3 hours looking for "Phoenix Trustedcore" Bios setup, nothing....
Help Help help...I wanna XP on my 5791 not vista.....

I slipstreamed all SATA and RAID drivers for my notebook into a new XP Pro CD using nLite.

So i do not have to deal with that issue if it ever arises.

Is there any way to tell the hard drive to act in IDE mode in the BIOS? I remember someone mentioning something like that.

in the M570RU, I do not think there is an option for IDE mode yet... probably a new BIOS update would remedy this.

nLite is fully legal, I used it on my XP Pro I got as a promo from Intel. Its not illegal as long as own the COA.

Okay. there is the deal...disable the advanced>Intel Robson, the whole sub-cats will be disabled...then you can install the xp...however, when I installed the driver then go back and change it back, I got a bluescreen, even the safe model couldn't start...I guess I am going to stick with it... btw, if someone is interested to install the driver Gophn provided, you may need to get a software called Virtual Floppy Drive if you don't have a floopy drive.. you can get it from http://chitchat.at.infoseek.co.jp/vmware/vfd.html
I attach a couple of pictures I took via my phone in case someone need them later..
    thank you all for help.

that works... but its easier and more future proof to make a custom slipstream XP CD for your own system.

I tried to clone the old drive by using acronis, I guess it is because my old laptop drive is PATA rather than SATA , so it didn't work. any suggestions?

you can clone your old drive, just make sure to go into Safe Mode when you put in the cloned drive to the new system.

If you get a crash or BSOD, then you will need to sit down for 10 minutes and make the slipstream XP CD.

I created a Slipstreamed XP disc from my original disc using nLite and placed those drivers in it (text-mode) and my Clevo M570U still can't find them. I've been told to turn off AHCI, but when I try to it greays it out and says I need to contact a supervisor.

Since this is a pretty dead thread, you're not likely to get much attention here. If you're being locked out of your BIOS by something that wants a password, you'd probably be better off contacting your reseller to see what can be done about that - provided you didn't set the password on the BIOS yourself.

Sorry for reviving it, wasn't sure If making a new one was better or not. I can change the password all I want, its blank. There isn't a prompt asking for one.

I'm just confused because I'm being told to "simply turn off AHCI in your BIOS" but I can't.

Well, since you already have a thread on the topic going, why not stick with that one? Otherwise, if a thead's been dead for almost a year (last post on this one before you was Nov. of 2007), then a new thread is almost always preferable.

Clearly, you're having a problem with accessing your BIOS; since you didn't set a BIOS password, it strikes me that it would behoove you to contact your reseller to find out if someone else did.
