    hi :hi2:
sorry if theres a guide thread or somesuch posted already. I tried searching the forums but it would bring back whole bunch of irrelevant threads.

anyway the 6990m in my malibal lotus went bad about a month ago. I managed to procure a 675m through ebay.

now to replace it, Ive been hearing a lot of bad things about malibal and i dont feel very inclined to send it back to them for the procedure.

could i get some instructions from you guys? ive open up and taken out the card before so i think i can handle it if you just tell me what i need to do.

im guessing i would need to buy a new paste. can i use the same heatsinks? do i need to mess with the vbios?
here are the details of the card i bought: NVIDIA 2GB GTX 675M Upgrade VGA Card MXM 3 0B | eBay

    Thanks guys,

no need to mess with the vbios, ull probably just need modified drivers. u can get those from laptopvideo2go.com, for example.
did u buy it with a heatsink included? if not, i would check and make sure if ur old heatsink fits the new gpu and if its possible to make it fit just by rearranging or adding/subtracting thermal pads in specific spots. u might wanna look into purchasing a heatsink specifically designed for the 675m/580m (identical cards, just different name)

as for the thermal paste, u definitely need to apply new paste every time u remove the heatsink from the gpu core. the necessary steps are easy, especially if u already know how to remove/install the card: remove old thermal paste from core using a dry cloth, followed by application of some rubbing alcohol on the cloth in order to completely remove all traces / with a square gpu core apply a rice-sized dot of paste in the middle / with a rectangular gpu core, either apply three small dots or a thin line along the center of the core / let the pressure of the heatsink evenly spread out the paste for you when installing its screws.

    thats pretty much it :)

    cheers

u could, of course, always ask the seller ull get ur new card from, he should know, especially if its a professional seller :) a new heatsink with screws isnt that big of an investment compared to the new gpu, but itll greatly reduce any risk of u bricking it due to improper installation.
generally ud have to look out for the vram chips and voltage regulators, but i basically covered any part that i could reach with my heatsink and thermal pads, just to be on the safe side :p

With the heatsink you need to simply make sure the heat pads are making propper contact which may require re-organisation or adding in/taking away some.
