I recently bought a vizio passive 3d tv, and love it; but i cant seem to get my p150hm with a 580m to work on the tv in 3d. is it possible to use my laptop on my tv? If it is possible what do i need to do to get it to work?

You need latest drivers installed + 3d drivers and controller driver (which come with the full installation of the new drivers).
An hdmi cable at least 1.3c (1.4a as well).
Then you need to download and install Nvidia 3dTv Play application, that enables 3d thru hdmi output.

your tv probably has shutter glasses and built in receiver; after you got all the things installed, switch to 720p 3d res (the nvidia 3dvision app should start automatically to configure your display) and setup everything.
