I had a lead from another post and I followed up on it. I found these pics. This is the new option OriginPC is offering. Also, Sager is offering backlit keyboards sometime soon, so this would look even better when paired with one. Personally it reminds me of the pre-Dell Alienwares, which is not surprising because OriginPC was founded after Dell took over.

So tell me what you think of the new look. I think it needs a chassis makeover to go with the cool lid.

Edit: sorry I did not notice the CES thread. I still think this is worthy of being discussed though.

I think that one of the main reasons why a lot of people prefer Clevo is for the fact that it doesn't look like Alienware or any gaming laptop with LED lights and huge logos. I used to have Asus G1 which is far from Alienware in screaming "Hi, I play videogames!" but it still bothered me. If you can't afford to have several laptops and have to use one for both gaming and in a professional environment, then Clevo is perfect. There is also less of a chance that someone would want to steal it, because it looks so bland. Another reason to buy Clevo is competitive pricing and Origin will surely ask an even larger premium for this model than they ask for now.

With that said, for people who would prefer to buy Alienware for its looks, but can't afford it, this may be a good alternative. We'll see how will the pricing compare and whether M15x will get a refresh to compete with it.

Some other companies like Mythlogic and XoticPC also offer modifications that are rarely talked about. Xotic PC Carbon Fiber That's an interesting look for a laptop.

If Alienware looked half-decent business machine look like, I would have bought one of them by now. And I can go nuts with high configuration since Dell have their own instant online monthly financing, which I've used before for Dell XPS M1330.

But Alienware look too much childish to my eyes.

And I certainly dislike that custom lid. Either go nuts like Alienware or don't.

That thing looks like a cheap Alienware clone on the outside while the inside will surprise anyone that opens it as it retains business-style looks of a standard Clevo. The lid and interior just clash in design way too much. That swirly red logo also sticks out like a sore thumb.

I'd much rather just have one of Mythlogic's custom paint jobs.

I suppose you are right guys. I did notice that the lid and inside clashed, which I don't like. I guess I was hoping they would release the rest of the modded machine to go with it. I do not really want to own a Clevo-based system at all if I can help it, because I won't be using it for business reasons and it looks a little uncomfortable to me.

    Why not?

    Honest question by the way...

I just seems like the thing to get if you get a laptop.

I have my reasons. I hope you don't mind if I share them.

For starters, Clevo is basically a no-name brand. If something goes wrong with it, what should I do? I can't just take it to BestBuy or Microcenter. Another thing is the sound quality. It is not as good as Alienware, or better still, MSI. A third thing is that I am not an adult who needs it to go to conferences or board (more like bored) meetings. I am a freshman University student starting in late 2012 and a gamer who lately exclusively uses PCs. Granted, Alienware is excessively designed, but I'd like it to have some sort of style that looks interesting.

It's too bad that there is really no middle ground in PC design. You have the fighter jet Asus G series, the "I will abduct your family!" Alienwares, and then there are the "I am a 40 year old man I don't want blinky lights" Sagers. There has got to be a middle ground somewhere that looks cool and is fast, but doesn't scream "I COST $2,000 STEAL ME!" The closest I have found to this is MSI, but it isn't exactly what I was going for.

Now, if the rest of that Origin looked as good as the lid, then that's what I would go for.
