I have gotten the shutting down problem resolved with replacing the thermal compound but now I am perplexed on this new one.

My laptop now starts to cloud out at the top and run down the screen and it is "ghosting" across the screen. I can grab the screen and put a little bit of a twist on it and the screen goes back to being fine. Later, it will fade away again. Seems like a broke LCD but why would it be coming back at all if it is broken? It is intermittent and only started after I changed out the thermal compound. Video temps are awesome so I know it can't be that plus it goes away with the little bit of a turn on the screen or down on the hinge where the screen goes into the base.

Any suggestions on what to check?

I'm thinking you may have tugged the LCD cable slightly as you were pulling the machine apart. I definitely would be taking it apart again to re-seat the LCD. Also seeing as the HM's don't use integrated graphics, you may want to check that your video card is also seated correctly.

Doesn't look broke at all, just looks like something is loose. Let us know how you go and good luck!

Thanks! I will look at it later this week. I will have to see if I can find the @#$@$% lcd cable and where it connects to the card slot, etc.

I am starting to think it is the lcd display. I reseated the cables completely and it still is happening but now it is worse. If I do not apply a little bit of pressure on the upper left side of the screen (pulling from the back forward very gently), the screen now is always fading away. If I have the pressure there, it is fine.

it rather sounds like something is wrong with the crystal matrix itself, like its detaching from the rest of the layers or something like that.

That's no good, before you go off and buy another LCD, how about the cable on the LCD end? have you checked if that end is all good?
