i m looking to buy the above model and planning to get 27/24inch 1080p monitor. My question is are there any problems with the hdmi out with 6990m being amd? I read on owners lounge forums that some guys were having trouble with it. any help would be appreciated , thanks

No problems that I'm aware of. It's plenty strong enough to drive a simple 1080p external display.
The only issue that might come up is that when you use an external secondary display (with AMD or Nvidia), the card will ramp up the clocks and potentially fan speed. -
thats cool, i dint hear it couldnt drive the display, more like it has trouble with the resolution not fitting properly stuff like that, ill switch off my monitor and just use the external so that should not be a problem right?

My current setup:
NP8170
LG 47" 1080p LED TV
I set the laptop as the primary and have the desktop extended. I like to use it for hulu. No problems to report using the HDMI port. If you want to game on the external monitor you would need to set the external monitor as the primary then use the laptop monitor as a dupe or extend. I've had no problems playing Deus EX HR on the external monitor, but still favor the laptop screen.
Hope that helps. -

You can use it in addition to the laptop display if you wanted. Though to answer your question about it not fitting, that depends on the TV. If your TV doesn't handle input correctly, it may be partially cut off or squished in. In that case, you'd want to create a custom resolution in the control panel. I've only seen really old or really cheap flat screens with resolution problems though. -
also whts the diff bet tv and a monitor? i can get 1080p tvs cheaper than monitors. I am planning on buying dedicated led monitor tho, for low response time and all that
dante316 why do you like to play on the laptop screen? I used to own ati radeon 9800 pro back in days and i connected it to a 42 inch tv and used to look great ( need for speed most wanted ) -

Relevant link for the difference between a monitor and TV (good read if you're unfamiliar with the subject): Ask EngadgetHD: What is the difference between a HDTV and a monitor? -- Engadget

JP the link is 4 years old!!! they are talking about 480p resolutions! lol, but i did find some articles on it. I think Monitors are better esp 27inch 1080p, 1ms LED backlit ones

Personal preference I guess, and the Sager screen looks great. I've always cared about gameplay over graphics anyways...
