nothing specific...the grainyness/smuggyness is apparent all over the screen for me =\
you don't need a plain white screen or have to look hard to see it.

I don't have Vista sitting around but this is how to access to that information on XP pro.
Press windows key + pause key simutaneously and click on hardware tab then click on device manager. Go on monitor section from the list, choose 'plug and play monitor" and double click on it and go to Detail tab. If it's LPLCD then it's LG Philips.

EDIT: But graininess issue is very rare with compal laptop unlike HP and Dell laptop screen are haunted with graininess problem. If it's something you can't tolerate you should contact your resller immediately and let them take care the problem for you.

I don't notice any apparent graininess on mine either; maybe your definition of graininess is what a matte screen displays because of the anti-reflective coating that the screen has when viewing a completely white screen?

my device manager says generic PnP monitor.
this is not my 1st time using/viewing a matte screen (thinkpads and macbooks), it defiantly has graininess unfortunately. =\

I notice a bit of graininess too. I noticed it first while playing Day of Defeat: Source earlier. I think it's just the mattes. Your comparison to greasiness is spot-on, IMO.

I do not notice it at all with mine, even after specifically looking for it with different backgrounds and colors. Could it have something to do with a video card driver or display setting as opposed to the screen itself?

yea, i think greasiness is a better word to describe it.
i know some is apparent on matte lcd screens, but my notebook monitor is significantly more noticeable. it doesn't appear you guys have it as bad...did i get a bad brand or defected screen or something? =\

No, I have the WSXGA+ matte and I don't have anything I would call graniness....I'll take a look at your pictures, though.

Hmm...a few of the pictures make the gridlines look overly apparent, though that could just be the camera...other than that, it's hard to tell as to how "greasy" it is.

I just got my 2090 and I'm having the exact same problem. Actually, I was absolutely shocked when I saw the screen as it looks like you said, grainy and greasy. I actually spent a few minutes trying to look for the peel off and I even tried to wipe it down. Not sure what to do. It also took me three startup-attempts to get the system to load out of the box :(

I also have the PnP monitor but I know that that is just a generic monitor, so I was wondering if anybody knows how to fix that?

One of my friends told me that this is just what antiglare screens look like because of the coating, but I've sen matte's before and I don't think they look like this. That being said this is the first antiglare I've used.
