I bought my np5760 alittle less than 2 years ago and recently it had been having issues when playing games, where the graphics would get distorted and the colors would go crazy. Then today while just surfing the web the computer froze and when I restarted it there were random black dots all over the place, white lines, and once windows loads the monitor just shuts off and shows no picture.

When I start windows in safe mode I am able to actually see a picture inside of window leading me to believe that it is the 1680x1050 resolution that can't be displayed.

I also plugged in an external monitor to test and see if it was the monitor but I get the same issues on that one as well.

Has anyone had this issue before and have and ideas if it can be fixed, is it purely a the geforce 7900gtx issue?

Anyone with any thoughts? I thought it might have been the gfx card being too hot, but I left it off overnight and the problem happends right as I turn the computer on still.

Sounds to me like it's still your graphics card.. could've gotten a little too hot once.. But just as well, I don't know anything about LCD screens, so it could be the power getting to that maybe.

have you been monitoring the temps... especially the GPU's ?

if not, then you might not have noticed it overheating... which means that you have done cleaned out the vents and fans enough with compressed air.

    you will probably have to
    (1) learn that heat can cause damage to computer parts
    (2) learn to clean out the vents once a month
    (3) contact your vendor to replace the videocard module.

Well I cleaned out my computers fans and heatsinks etc... recently and I added new thermal paste to the heatsink between the cpu. The GPU on the other hand is completly encased within a heatsink, I guess ill try to take that apart and see if I can clean it out and add thermal paste to taht as well, hopefully I can salvage something out of this.

This is actually stange because I had an insane problem similar to this before where the entire screen was covered with white lines and made it unreadable, so I had to plug in an external monitor. Then all of a sudden it fixed itself while i was working on the external monitor one day and it had been working fine ever since.

so did you monitor the GPU temps?

In any case, you can find a 7950GTX for the 5760/Clevo M570U (no RU) for around $300 from eBay or Clevo importer OEMs (like Eurocom).

I didn't monitor my gpu temps but I had no overclocking on.

I cant seem to find any on ebay, or anywhere else for that matter. Are there any online retailers or oems which sell them or possibly cheaper cards that will fit the np5760 or m570?

no need to OC... you still need to keep an eye on the temps... it will tell you when its in a danger temp.

your videocard must have been floating in the 90-95C+ area to get that kind of damage.

Your pics show the classic signs (and symptoms) of a video card problem. I had the exact same problem with a ATI Mobility Radeon 9600 for an Inspiron 8600 and a Nvidia GeForce Go 7900gs on an Inspiron E1705. The dots/lines were the same. I replaced the 9600 with a FX5200 and for the 7900gs I had to downgrade it to a X1400 (cuz Dell was going to charge me $400 for a refurb replacement gfx card) and everything was fine. Do a google search for "Dell e1705 7900gs video artifacts" and you'll find others with the same problem.

    So have you been:

    1) Getting weird lines at boot up even before OS is loaded (even in BIOS)
    2) Not been able to boot normally to windows (get a black screen)
    3) Able to boot into safe mode but once you reboot it gives you #2?
    4) In safe mode and disabled the video device and rebooted ok but still had lines and dots? (you can get past the black screen this way)

If so, your video card is bad; most likely your video memory has fried. Sorry, but you need to have it replaced. I know that's bad news but hope that helps.

Yea I did some diagnostic test and the GPU is completely dead. And yes the only way I can start windows without a black screen is by disabling the video card.

Unfortunately I can't find ANY replacements for this video card anywhere, and no laptop parts sites seem to be very helpful, anyone know of any places that sell replacements for these?

Well you might be able to get a 7950GTX instead. I believe it is compatible for the 5760. Those are more recent, I believe. Gophn says "In any case, you can find a 7950GTX for the 5760/Clevo M570U (no RU) for around $300 from eBay or Clevo importer OEMs (like Eurocom)."

edit---seems to be for your exact laptop: Clevo m570u. It's used, but $170 for a 7950GTX Go is a decent price.

try to install your GPU Bios again.
