Purchase reason
As most people on these forums know, I've been searching for that perfect laptop and in my search I've had my share of bad experiences. All the way from the first computer cheap Dell I purchased to sleek Alienware m9750 to the top of the line Sager np5793 barebone and the bargain deals on a gateway P-6831FX and now I'm back to the Sager. My most recent purchase was out of necessity for a laptop in a very short time for work and this was not really what I was seeking, but so far it has been well worth it.
Before I continue I'd like to thank BIGphutte for his help in getting this laptop to me as fast as possible. Where another seller failed BIGphutte filled that gap very nicely.
Build & Design
The laptops build quality is definitely above average, but the cooling design could have used a litte more care. I sometimes wonder if anyone listened to the fans before they started shipping the laptops.
Screen
Its a very bright and shiny screen, I wish it was matte, but for now it works just fine. I know everyone like the highest resolution they can get on a screen,
but for me the resolution is just fine, and any higher and it might be hard for my eyes.
Heat & Noise
The cooling system on the laptop is very well designed, especially for the cpu. I was expectng with a extreme processor, the cpu would get on the hot side, it quite the opposite. So far the
cpu has not ever gone above 58c and thats while playing crysis and only 28c while typing this review. The gpu on the other hand seems to run a little on the warm side while even idling. While on
idle, it gets up to 53c on idle and up to 65c while gaming. The fan toggle controls are very nice, but they can't make up for the fact that this laptop runs loud.
F+3 fan control keeps the laptop rather quiet, but any gaming makes this laptop start to screem. I would highly recommend headphones if you game with the laptop infront of you.
Keyboard
As much as I would like to say the keyboard on my laptop is above average, it is not. Between the 3 gaming systems I have used, the Gateway, Alienware and Sager. I would have to say the Gateway had the best keyboard.
The reason I say that is, the P-6860FX. While the Sager and Alienware do use nice solid keyboards, I just don't see a reason to not use a full Numeric pad anymore. If they can do it on a cheap gaming laptop I would
think the top of the line much higher priced models could splurge on such a simple thing.
Touchpad
>.> Its a touchpad, what else can I say besides I wont ever game on it.
Wireless
Connected to my router just fine, even in my basement office, I don't have any problems. I even used the laptop in my garage to play music and the range was just fine.
Customer support
Not much new here...someone picks up the phone when you call. How many copanies can say that?
Conclusion
The Sager NP5793 is tough to beat as a single-GPU 17-inch notebook. It has superb gaming performance, a gorgeous widescreen display, rock solid quality, and top-notch input devices. Decent battery life is icing on the cake. The NP5793's main downside is the loud cooling system, and without a doubt it will affect buying decisions. Starting at a shade over $2,000 with the 8800M-GTX as of writing, the pricing is more than reasonable for such performance. Sager continues to set the gold standard for gaming notebooks and this notebook is well worth a look for those in the market.
Benchmarks
Rather than do 3dmarks and review games that everyone has played I thought I would show you a few new games and benchmark of pcsx2 playing Final Fantasy X. Not all games will be added today, but I will have more
benchmarks up tomarrow.
MASS EFFECT
This game ran great, FPS never dropped below 40 at 1680x1050 "I forgot to turn on the fps counter, but rivatuner was running in the background"

Why does no one ever test bluetooth? everyone says the exact same thing "function as expected". No harm done because 95% of us don't even use it anyways. I do, and it works well on the 5793.

My notebook was one of the first to have bluetooth... and I do even use it.

Ahhh, the silver trim
