So with the ridiculous sale going on right now with the 5793, I find myself having a hard time justifying buying the upgraded 5797. Infact, the only real advantage I see to the 5797 (besides HDMI and all that business) is the potential to upgrade the cpu to a quad at some point in the future. Basically, I was hoping that any of ya'll out there who had experience with both (or just more knowledge than I have) could tell me if there was a performance difference that would justifying the cost difference (assuming a ~2.5GHz cpu). Also, I'm pretty much using it for games. Thanks guys, I've already learned a lot from you.

This np5793/m570ru deal is too good to pass up, the best notebook that i have ever owned.. hands down.

Yeah, it's an amazing deal. Besides the lack of HDMI and quad support, you are also limited to a matte screen, 9800GTS and I thought I read somewhere the cooling system in the 5793 was louder than the 5797 but I'd get confirmation on that first if it would be a problem for you.

Older chipset and components could be limiting in some aspects, but if things like transfer speeds for SSD drives don't matter and you don't need faster ram for rendering applications go for it.

Summary is: Going to game, get this machine.
Going to do video editing or HD image or model design, get the 5797. -
Go for the 5793, great deal, excellent machine.

Hey guys (girls?) thanks for the replies. As a sort of side note, do you think that the current quad offering on the '97 will pretty much be the extent of it, or will there be even more options down the road for upgrades? I guess I'm still greedily trying to find a way to get the 5797 sans guilt. Thanks again.

Well, BigTill, its based on what you want to do. I mean, you could get a quad core based laptop, but what will you do with it that will utilize it to its fullest extent that a dual core wouldn't?
Honestly, are you trying to save cash, get the 5793. Best bang for buck. If you see yourself doing things like HD video editing, imaging and modeling OR you have the money to spend with no need to save cash, get the 5797. Its as simple as that. -
5797= everything machine with high end parts. even with a low end cpu, it will beat out the 5793
5793= retail. show boating a bluray player and and mid range video card.
although you can go buy an x9000 and run it in there with no problems.
but like the old saying goes...you get what you pay for. -
the question is, how long is this deal going to last?
-
have no idea...i bought mine 2 months ago...and the deal is still on

Buy as much notebook as you can afford, not what looks like a good deal today. Even if you don't want the quad now, you will in a year, so why not get the 5797 to at least leave yourself the option to upgrade later; with the 5793 you're essentially buying into a platform that's already reached its dead-end, and down the road you'll be forced to buy a whole new notebook for that quad you so desire. It's illogical. The current mobile quads are just the beginning, so by the time you need one, there will be better processors available plus more games and programs to take advantage of it.
Save a little now, and you'll literally pay for double the notebook later. -
