Hmm i was playing around with my fan controls and it seems like the laptop gets quieter when you press silent mode, then fn+1.

Holy ***, hex, make up your mind! You're scaring us all!!

:p :p Just kidding. But it's quite difficult to get an accurate view of this noise... I really hope the motor noise can be fixed by software upgrades.
Tried to oil those little fan motors yet?

@Killernotebooks: Care to tell us what model this Nagakami (or something like that :p) is?

The fans on my 5792 make a similar noise. Especially on start up the corner one sounds like a jet engine. The fact that a few people have this gives me faith...it must be normal...?

Yea, but how can I have a 60 or 80mm Vantec Stealth that produces 24 or 27 cfm that is way quieter??? I would just like the issue addressed by Clevo because obviously something could be done about it!

Mark, do you mean to tell me that on your Killernotebook the Executioner you've replace the Clevo barebone fan with quieter ones?

Anyone know the official specs of the stock fans for the 5793/6? I mean size and CFM (and voltage, I guess - but that's probably standard)...

Also - how does the fan-speed get controlled in these models? Is the thermal control built onto the fan, or does the MOBO adjust the voltage and ramp the speed up and down? If we were to buy replacement fans (like the Vantecs), would we just get a standard voltage fan, or one with thermal control onboard? (I assume the former is the case).

I find that the silent mode is absolutely useless and even works opposite to what it is supposed to most of the time!

When I get emails like this...
We have to make some changes guys. The motherboard and model info was given to Speedfan so [fingers crossed] they can do something with it.

Update: My contact info was sent to the creator of SpeenFan by the customer who wrote that email to me. SpeedFan is supposed to contact me so we can get the drivers written for the motherboard for this machine!

I was looking forward to buy this model too, but after reading in here and listening to the "jet engine"... damn! That's ridiculous. As if a vacuum cleaner is not enough... I don't care if it gets noisy while gaming, but not while doing Office, Word, Internetbrowsing. Though a sound like a "motor engine" like here still annoys...

Hopefully KillerNotebooks and the Speedfan creator gain control over the fanspeed. I had very good experience with this application and could keep my notebook (not a Clevo) silent while doing Office Application by reducing both GPU&CPU fans from 4800 RPM to 2000 RPM which I couldn't even hear anymore, though provided enough cooling for Office purpose.

I have been told by the same customer that the fans regulate during normal use but while gaming, within 3 seconds it goes full blast. The really annoying thing is that he is saying that it is the CPU fan, and that the CPU temperatures are converting to 99 deg Fahrenheit! That's ridiculously LOW and shouldn't have fans running at full blast. Now I asked him to verify that it wasn't the GPU fan kicking on and he said he would do that tonight.

Do you have any way of testing the noise output in db for the executioner?

That might help people make a decision.

I find it funny that people are saying the Sager have very good cooling. It really doesnt matter if they can keep the temperature low, because any idiot can throw in a few fans and make them go crazy......

It would have to be done on the ODM level or any warranty work would be out the door. They see some after market fan in there and that is going to automatically be the cause of the problem.

Any progress on speedfan compatibility for the np5796/M570tu?

I am looking to buy a machine and this would solve my dilemma. I am shifting between this, gateway 7811fx, the MSI-1722 or waiting for the new HP elitebooks. The Sager is easily the best choice for price/performance and I would buy it tomorrow if I knew I could manage the fan noise.

I would happily donate/pay if speedfan could be adapted to work with the Sager

    Thanks!

No speedfan never has worked with any sager product and probably never will. And the fan noise is relative to each person, with silent mode i had no problem taking it into the library.

I've searched for speedfan information for the 5793 and found nothing...but comments in previous posts gave me hope that drivers could be written if the appropriate hardware information (for the 5796) was provided.

Do you think that there is a hardware limitation and not simply a lack of information/programming effort?

Well if the developer of speedfan decides to do it they would probably need some type of clearance from Clevo or sager to access the bios to modify the fan speed, and i dont see clevo or sager doing that because that will warrant more people forgetting that their laptop was on low fan speed and then go game and have it crisp then send it in for a warranty repair.

The fans on my notebook are quiet, virtually silent. I will take mine a part to see which fans I have tomorrow, as it seems they are shipped with different ones. I didn’t know the power button in Vista was set to sleep mode when I clicked on it, and thought the notebook was off. I wrapped my notebook in plastic and put it in the case to go show it off, it’s raining here so I didn’t want to get it wet. Once I got to my destination 10 minutes later, we started to smell something. It was coming from my notebook bag, and when I opened it, it smelled liked burned plastic. When I pulled the notebook out, it was as hot as a stove on medium high! I got really lucky, because everything is fine, and all is working. The fans had to be on high to get the notebook cool again, and even at that point, I had to listen closely to notice they were on.

That would be your loss! As you can see, nothing is wrong. And judging from the post here, you should jump at the chance to buy it!

I'm going to go home now, but I am curious to see which fas I have. I'm too tired to take a look now, so I'll do it tomorrow with a small review, awesome notebook!

If you smelt burned plastic, then something must be wrong one way or another :D
