Hey guys, I have a np8130 and I replaced the optical drive with a hard drive. I was wondering if there is some sort of enclosure to use this as an external drive? If you could give me some examples that would be great. I have seen people do it with drives from a desktop but those are a lot bigger than laptop drives. I have the standard drive that came with the laptop, no upgrades. Thanks for the help

My topic could help you out:

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/sager-clevo/632301-how-sager-8130-dvd-drives-enclosures.html

Basically we reached the consensus that:

    1. The bezel is tough to remove from the DVD optical drive to replace with the enclosure's bezel, and
    2. Optical drives are getting kind of pointless anyways.

I only wanted mine for emergency uses (OS reinstall, original drivers, antique in-laws, stuff like that) but all that is evidently rendered uneccesary so long as you have some kind of burner/reader in a computer somewhere for every other blue moon.

Several topics here. Here is an enclosure for your ODD from your laptop: http://www.amazon.com/external-Enclosure-Notebook-included-Dimensions/dp/B001KUYF5K and I have no idea why anyone would worry about a bezel from their laptop to put on their external enclosure. The Bezel is what you would take off your laptop to put on the caddy you replace your ODD with. Either I am very tired or the responae to your question is. But yes, you can use it and for a very cheap price.

I hope I have the right idea of what your asking for. If not, forgive me, because as I said, it is late.

Wow thanks so much for that link! It is exactly what I needed, and for $1! It doesn't get better. Thanks a lot!

    Edit*

Just kidding, thats not exactly what I need. That one is not compatible with esata, anyone know of an enclosure that is?

Why do you need eSATA? It's not going to give you any faster transfer rates due to the slow speed of optical drives. In addition, if the drive requires more than the power provided by a single USB port (which many drives do when you want to burn a disk), you won't be able to run it without an external power source.
