So originally I had a np8150 with gtx580m. It was fantastic.
1 month ago it stopped working. Sent it in for repair, they told me its water damage. I need a new motherboard. And apparently my 16gb of ram also has water damage

My question is simple. They have given me 2 options,

    1. Repair np8150 260gbp, this is a new motherboard, keyboard, case.

    2. Buy a p150em 550gbp for a full system that has no ram, cpu or hdd
This means swapping to 7970m, (I dont know if thats better or worse than 580m) but also means getting 12 month warrantee.

Is it worth upgrading ? Are there any other great offers on laptops around ?

I bought it from gentech pc in us, after contacting sager about repairs they put me in contact with a clevo repair center in the uk.
My budget ... maximum 800-900 gbp but can pay more to get significant upgrades.

im sure theres a clevo repair centre in america which would be much easier and cheaper than sending to the uk.

clevo repair america / uk / germany CLEVO - World's Service

if your willing to pay out £800-900 i would seriously think of buying a a 150 from an american supplier as our prices in the uk are wayyyy more expensive than in america.

The price didnt seem tobad to be honest. 600 gbp for a new laptop that has no cpu, all the old parts from my 8150 would be sent to me (lcd, dvd replacement for hdd, gfx card ect.

Does anyone know if the 7970 has anyway of playing 3d movies

For £600 and having the warranty coverage along with the significant graphics performance boost then it's not too bad.

You could also upgrade to a 3rd gen ivy later if you wanted.

Is gtx 580 to 7970m a significant boost ?. Now considering maybe the cheap repair, keeping the notebook for another year the upgrading to something nice

The 7970m is a ton faster than the GTX 580m. The issue here is how much money the upgrade will cost. If the cost is a lot, then just have your laptop repaired and later get a laptop that DOESN'T force Enduro/Optimus and has a dedicated MUX for manual GPU switching. That means staying away from Clevo laptops (besides the crossfire/sli models), unfortunately.

He stated it was £600 which considering it should at least always be as fast as his 580M and usually 70-80% faster seems reasonable.
