I am sure there have been many threads about this, but I need to know if there is any software that will allow me to control my gpu fan according to the temperature it is at.
If there isn't anything along those lines yet please clear that up for me.
Also, is Clevo planning to add support for this in the bios in future revisions?
thanks guys!![]()

Nope, as far I know there is no software yet with this feature. You're currently limited to either auto fan speed control, or FN + 1 for maximum. There is no software yet that can interface with the EC to directly alter fan speed. It's not a Bios feature that can be added in, it's something that needs interfaced with on the EC. -
Just wondering. Considering getting one of these. Is the fan noticeably loud?
-
Try HWinfo32, it may allow you to control the fans.

They're fairly quiet at normal room temperature when doing low power stuff (web browsing, etc), but they can get loud when gaming. Then again, that's normal for most laptops.
No, it won't. As I pointed out, there is nothing out there yet that will interface with the fans through the EC. It's still useful for reading the fan speed and other system diagnostic info though. -
Have you tried talking to Mumak (hwinfo32 author)? He managed to add fan controls for many laptops including the AW, Elitebooks, etc. If the fans aren't controlled through the EC, then it's either the BIOS or OS and both can be hacked.

There was a thread way back when these models were released that someone had requested support be added, but it doesn't seem to have gone anywhere. -
I think it was mostly because Mumak was banned here before he could finish his work

You can control the GPU fan to automatically increase or decrease speed based on temperature with Sapphire Trixx. It takes a little time to adjust it just right, but you basically plot points on a temp/fan speed graph. In the end, I decided to scrap Trixx and use ATI Tray. If I'm playing a game that's going to work the GPU fairly hard, I figure I just might as well have fan running at 100% speed. If I'm overclocking, I might as well have the fan running at 100% speed. In ATI Tray, I can use a keystroke to underclock the GPU and lower the fan speed or another keystroke to use a pre-configured overclock settings at 100% fan speed.

No, This is so untrue, my np8170's fan is constantly on even doing nothing ,I never heard another fan speed beside that one and It's really loud to an unacceptable point. The only different fan speed is when i fn+1
-
On my N8170, the fan is barely audible even when I am playing a game. If you listen carefully, it is a low non intrusive rush of air. It is likely due to you having a different Bios version. All temps are fine too.
-
I thought MSI's Kombustor allowed you to scale the fan speed with the GPU temp. If I remember, there's a line graph that will let you drag the fan speed to whatever temp you wanted.
I'm going to check this out. -
Well, maybe I have very different definition of what is barely audible than you and the malibal rep, but it is no where as close to my desktop loudness. My desktop with 4 120mm fans and 2 7200rpm hdd is quieter than this. The "Barely audible" sound is definetely not only the airflow. In addition, I just upgraded the EC today and everything stays the same.
My CPU is at 43 Degree when performing normal tasks like Emule, ambiant temp is around 20
I will apply new thermal paste and update the results here after a few days of usage -
Doesn't work on this gen of clevo/sagers. The EC and FN + 1 are the only things that control fan speed.

I have a question. There is a button that controls the fanspeed with 2 settings (high/low) but its really variable speed on high/low and keeps switching (I dont realy like it when its running high its too noisy) while on "low" its fixed and seems to be running very quiet with no sudden switches to a noisy mode.
Which mode should it ideally be in? -

There aren't two speeds at all, actually. There's auto fan speed control, which is normal. The other is FN+1 which puts them to max speed, all the time. You're just choosing between auto and full speed. Auto is recommended unless you live somewhere with high ambient temperatures.
