    hey guys,

So I purchased the new Wolfenstein today, and when I'm installing it the CD drive is making this INSANE noise like its vibrating like crazy...

I have the sound recorded and attached to this post
    is anyone else getting this?

When you hear it get quiet that is me pushing the drive in with my hand.

    EDIT:
I need the CD in the play as well and it still makes that sound... this sucks. =/
I thought games had evolved from requiring the CD to play.

the only time mine has made that sound is with world in conflict on the start up or when i installed it,no other disc does this.So i believe in my case its the disc that is unbalenced, does yours do it with every disc?

Try your game with out a disc to start, some dont need it,like world in confict dosnt did not know at the tme tho.If its not that see if the drive is secure or return it under warrenty good luck m8

I tried without it, it needs the disc.

This is the first game I've installed on this laptop from the disc =/ most everything else comes from Steam or other downloads.

DVDs don't do it.. maybe its like you with just a bad CD. It did hush a bit once I got the game running.

I don't know about you, but I'd be quite scared or even horrified if my drive made that noise, regardless if that's what's supposed to happen

cant listen to the sound as at work so ill guess.
i deal with thousands of discs at my hospital and the cheaper they are the more vibration/whiring sound you get. dry different games or discs and see if its the same. also if youve stuck any labels onto the disc this imbalances it and will cause noise.

if im totally on the wrong lines then ignore this post as i havnt heard the attached noise yet.

Try either a virtual CD program, or one that will mount ISO images. Some emulate a CD-ROM drive so windows (and thus the game) wouldn't know it was pulling data from hard disk.

The one I use from microsoft only works on XP but I'm sure you could find a vista compatible one

This happens with my Fallout 3 DVD too. You'll have to deal with it while it installs... something I did to lessen the sound was put some doubled paper between the case and the DVD drive. You know, put some cushion between the two. It kind of worked, but not good enough.

I myself prefer to buy all my games retail. Theres a bunch of Steam policies that really get me nervous... do something wrong, and puff! All your games are gone. They have the right to steal them from you, in other words.

This is useful if your DVD still makes sound while playing (my Fallout 3 DVD doesn't.), or if you ever need to reinstall the game or soemthing.
