I was wondering how the screen quality was on both the Glossy 1680x1050 AND the quality of the Matte 1920x1200 screen.

    Specifically what I'm asking is:
    • Color reproduction
    • View angle
    • Contrast
    • Brightness

I love LED backlit but I understand that this screen is not. I want highest rez possible because it makes multitasking with multiple windows that much nicer.

It would be nice to hear some feedback from both screen types.

I know how the g51vx-rx05 looks as far as color, view angle, contrast, and brightness so I can only assume the higher rez screen will be very similar.

Honestly, I wish I could pull the screen off the Dell SXPS 16, the housing and innards off the SAGER np8662, and the keyboard/touchpad off the g51vx and roll that all into one laptop. That would be a perfect laptop.

At this point I'm torn between the sager and the asus. I know everyone around here loves the Sager, and I'd like to pickup my new laptop before my last year in college kicks in, but I'm also willing to wait for more 260M (or comparable) laptops to emerge into the market.

Hi Webic33.....I can only vouch for the matte....it is GREAT! I have an old Dell Inspiron 8100 with a matte, and my M860ETU (np8662...same thing) and it's matte blow the old laptop out of the water in terms of color, brightness, and "good-lookingness"....I know others with glossy, and they get smudged fairly quickly.....the 1900x1200 (approx.) res is fine....I'm 38, my eyes are decent, and I have no problem with the smaller icons / font....my 2 cents....good luck in your search!

I'm used to 1680x1050 on my 15.4" Acer Ferrari 4000 that I'm finally going to replace.

I'm not worried about anything being small at all, just worried about screen quality, I'm pretty picky. I have a 60" Pioneer Kuro for a reason :D, I love a good quality and accurate screen.

...and I plan on hooking up whatever new laptop I get to it and playing some games on it.

A few things for the matte screen:

    - Contrast is not perfect; My Gateway P-7811FX screen has better contrast... However, the screen on the M860ETU have absolutly no light leakage. This might be because the screen on the Gateway is glossy, though.
    - Very bright... this is brightest laptop screen I have seen.
    - The only problem with WUXGA is that it doesn't allow you to play some games at native resolution... and the list gets bigger as more power-hungry games are released.

I'd be interested in any comments also (regarding the 1680x1050), it is the only thing holding me back from buying a M860ETU.

    WSXGA+:

    - Screen is very bright
    - Color and Contrast is good
    - Viewing angles are average
    - A marked improvement over the early M860TU screens

I'm looking at buying also but have two concerns:

    1. The reviews I've seen for the WSXGA+ were not positive - mostly just too dim. KevinJack2.0 says it's good now... can any other people also confirm this?

    2. The WUXGA may be just too high res.... does changing DPI settings bring it up to a more conventional font size?

Finally, anyone have regrets about their screen (WSXGA+ or WUXGA)?

    Thanks!
