they are not recognizing 1866mhz, 1600mhz is top supported.

Really? That's a shame. What CPUs can actually utilize 1866MHz laptop RAM then? The 3720QM doesn't support it either, according to Intel's website. Do the 38xx/39xx processors have it enabled?

the EM series on itself supports DDR3 memory up to 2133 Mhz (info by Prema after analyzing the BIOS). 3610QM really only supports up to 1600 mhz due to the limitation of the integrated memory controller. anything upwards from that (3720QM, etc) should be able to go up to 1866 Mhz AT LEAST! in the precedessor HM series it has already been shown that 2720QM and higher support the 1866 Mhz ram (plug n play, NOT XMP ram modules!) :)

    cheers

Really? I thought the integrated memory controller was just for the first 8GB for actual speed, not recognized speed as it should clock down to 1600Mhz. Still would be limited like you said though by the CPU, but not necessarily because of the integrated memory controller... anyhow you are right in the end as it either works or it doesn't.

Could you please link to where this is coming from? I was considering getting 1866MHz RAM in the P150EM I'll be ordering, but there is nothing from Intel saying that:

    I got that here.

Or, I could be misunderstanding you. Are you saying that when using the IGP, the memory it uses will only clock up to 1600MHz?

Personally I'm getting that corsair vengeance 1866. If it underclocks I'm overclocking it back. Plus to be honest I lose no money if it doesn't work, it's the same price for getting a 1600.

And to be honest I'd take that 2-3fps simply because this notebooks going to last me 2+ years

Where are you finding it the same price. On Newegg it's $20 more for the 1866MHz kit over 1600MHz...

That and it wasn't 2-3 fps... it was only a 1.3 fps jump at the most and that was going from 1333 to 1866. You'd be lucky to see any improvement for that money spent!

I'm going by the price of choosing to get no RAM, plus Canadian prices. It's about $90 off for getting no RAM installed and about $92 for the thing so a $2 loss.

from a 1333 to 1866 is actually quite a lot, approximately a 2~3 fps difference under stress.

    Source.

Yes and The other article showed it to be less. Unless you are playing the specific game, with that specific setup, more often then not your gains will be closer to the other article. I'd be willing to bet the article your using as your source managed to publish the titles that gave them the best results instead of normal/average results.

Well I'll be changing from 800MHz to whatever I choose. I feel really cheated actually, HP sold me this laptop with a motherboard that only supports up to DDR2 speed RAM, but with DDR3 sticks in the slots. I had no idea they were actually stuck at such a low speed.

Can any reseller confirm if P150EMs/P170EMs can use RAM at 1866MHz? Intel says the Ivy Bridge processors don't support it.

that might be reporting the single data rate speed. In which case you would in fact be at 1600mhz. Just make sure using a system check software of your choice.

I'm sure it's 800MHz. The sticks are rated at 1066MHz and CPU-Z reports them at 399, so x2 and we have 800. I was so shocked really I looked up the motherboard chipset on Intel's site and sure enough, it only supports up to 800MHz DDR2.

But ahem, still no official word on RAM speeds for Clevo?

this is why people buy Clevo instead of HP and brands in general

some resellers offered the HM series preconfigured with 1866 Mhz RAM, so seriously, i highly doubt the EM series to be incompatible with it. just cuz intel is only listing 1600 Mhz doesnt mean its not compatible! when the second gen Sb cpus came out they were just supposed to be compatible up to 1333 Mhz officially and we all know now that that isnt true.

thus, as i said before: as long as ure using PnP and NOT XMP RAM (corsair vengeance are XMP, whereas Kingston offers PnP 1866 RAM) ur EM laptop will MOST DEFINITELY run 1866 without any hitches :)

    cheers
