I am doing quite a lot of dataprocessing these days and after I learned that Excel 2007 utilizes all cores, I checked with Sager if upgrading to a Q9650 was possible.

Sager told me to verify my motherboard version, there should be a sticker on on the memory slots telling v5.2 or higher, and they provided me with a new Bios (version 20).

After updating my Bios I swapped processors and WOW, this Q9650 outperforms my "old" E8400 by a factor two! (wPrime)!

The result is expected, with q9650 it will use 4 threads at 3GHz while with E8400 2 threads at 3GHz.

yup. the quad-core's will crush the fastest of dual cores in a multi-threaded environment.
