i own gateway p-7805u and it plays all the games i am playing good right now(of course, not the maximum setting but at medium to medium-high setting which is good enough for me to carry around). i already beat games like crysis etc and use it mostly for web surfing and cad only these days.
if i were to play another game, it probably will be games like bio shock or diablo 3 when it comes out. should i just give it one more year till they release octa-core cpu/gtx 300 or whatever equipped(probably next model to np9280) or should i just place order for np9280 now?
i have money and almost placed an order one but it just suddenly hit me in the head. i mean what the heck am i gonna do with super laptop like that when i don't even play high end games? what would you do if you were me?

You've got an insane desktop and an x9100 FX. Course you don't need it lol :p IMO, NP9280 is only good for people who really need a DTR; the power of the i7, the extra RAM, the 3 HDD capacity...

Right, you have strong equipment that should last for a couple of years!

I have got a np9261 myself and with a Q9650 cpu its still a very strong DTR.
Let's wait for two more years and buy something nextgen...

I'm pretty much in the same position... octa-core, just love the sound of that lol.

I'd wait a while, if your hardware still does it for you, why replace it?

I don't see any octo-core for desktop coming next year. Where are people getting all this? All I see is gulftown which is hexa-core (12 if consider logical core). Can somebody shed some light to me please.

Yea I agree with everybody else. You have a beastly desktop that can run any game. I suggest you stick with your current laptop since you said you do not have the need to play with max settings. I suggest you save the money and get something in the future.
