I have a Sager 9262 and am looking at getting the new 9850. I have a couple of questions that I hope the experts here might be able to answer. The first question is how does the fan noise with the 9850 compare to the 9262. To me the 9262 was pretty quiet so I am hoping that is the same with the 9850. My final question is about the processor speed. Right now my 9262 has a Q6700 and with the 9850 I am looking at getting the Q9000 (QX9300 is too much money). It seems this would be a downgrade for me so can anybody tell much how much difference this would be in terms of performance? I appreciate your help.

    I don't know anything about the NP9262.
    But I do have a NP9850 (aka. M980NU).

Under normal conditions the NP9850 fan noise is very minor. You can hear it but it's not loud or bad in my opinion, very light. It could be quieter but for what's in this machine I'm pleased.
Under load the fans do kick in a notch and IMO are louder but not unbearable. I like quiet systems and this laptop is quiet but not super wisper quiet but again look whats in it (SLI two fans and CPU fan).

    Isn't the Q6700 a desktop processor (105w 8 mb cache quad core 2.66ghz)
The Q9000 is also a mobile processor (45w 6 mb cache quad core 2.0 ghz)
Two different applications I think and yes the price difference on a Q9000 and QX9300 is larger but ebay also has some good deals on ES ones (if you care to try) or I got mine from the HP deal at the beginning of August (not sure if it's still valid though).

Link for the comparison of them on intels site.

In the vast majority of games, the Q9000 will be fine and you won't notice much of a difference in performance. In games such as Fsx, GTA IV, Empire Total war series and any other CPU intensive games, you will most likely notice less performance.

Take a look here to get some ideas of performance Q9000 Vs P9700

Also the link in my sig gives you an overall idea of general gaming performance of the Q9000.

I appreciate the replies. I guess I am going to hold off on getting a 9850 for a while. The Q9000 seems to be a downgrade from what I have now. The QX9300 is just too much money and there are no other quad cores in the middle that I saw. I was wanting that 18inch screen bad too. Anyway, does anybody know if the 9850 will ever get the i7?

I took a look at powernotebooks and xoticpc and I don't see those two cpus as being a selection.

My current setup is Intel Core 2 Quad Q6700, 8800GTX, 4 gigs ram, win 7, 2 320 gig harddrive in raid 0. I am wanting the 9850 for the 18 inch screen, gtx280, ssd, and a better cpu. By the way does anybody have a screenshot of a 17 inch alongside the 18 inch laptop? Again thanks for the responses.

That is probably what I will do is wait. I took a look at the 9280 which has the i7 but I really want the 18inch screen and sli. Will the 9850 ever have the i7? You would think that laptop would have the best cpu. Anyway, I am looking to spend around $3500.

that kind of money is worth waiting on. plus dx11 is coming out as well. you don't want to dump something so big on something that's going to be old IF you have something right now that plays well.(which i'm sure it does. i had the np9262 with e8600 and a single 9800m gtx.)

i'm also looking at the m17x which means i'm in the same situation as you. but i'm sure we were looking for different reasons.
