on my np9262 with 8800 gtx sli machine. something probably happened when going back and forth between drivers. i did use drive cleaner between installations but it does not make any difference right now. nvidia control panel simply refuses to load. only the new official nvidia drivers can i get access to the control panel BUT i don't think these new drivers work well because under global profiles forcing single gpu mode does not work as it still remains in sli mode when starting up a game.
so going back to older official drivers i cannot access the nvidia control panel. i even went to the original sager drivers that shipped with the laptop and still cannot access the control panel.
i did some google searching but nothing concrete comes up. only something about a previous version of nvidia installation pack did not verify some dll's or something and it may linger around but no idea how to check this. formating the hard drive(s) is not an option right now....![]()
edit; i also want to add that i recently started playing supreme commander (forged alliance) again and sli in this game worked just fine in the past. i was using some 190.xx underground drivers and noticed a graphical glitch in one of the shields effects and that sli would not give the performance boost so i went with the new official nvidia drivers. the graphic glitches were solved but sli also stops working abruptly after a few minutes into the game. the sli bar still reads like sli is working great but i know the fps gets chopped and does not recover. i wen't into the control panel to force sli off in the global profile (which should force sli off for every application i believe) but it still remains in sli mode. disabling sli in the game's specific profile under the control panel does work as intended.....annoyed right now.

hmm, the sudden fps 50% fps drop is also happening now in single gpu mode...maybe it is heat related. if i tab out of the game and come back to it a few seconds later the fps recovers but cannot sustain. this also happens in sli mode. gotta blow out the fans and see.
looks like the fps drop was caused by heat. after i cleaned the fans out by compressed air there was no performance loss in the game. obviously the gpu's were downclocking and there was not even that much dust, i thought. it's interesting to know that the cooling system in these notebooks is so good that it requires the fans to be cleaned out with compressed air.
i am still puzzled by the nvidia control panel but if these new drivers are good i guess it's not much of an issue.
nvidia control panel won't load
