when I get to the windows vista welcome screen, I have a weird problem. At first the top 2/3 of the screen comes on, then the bottom 1/3 comes on about 1/2 second later. I'm not sure why, and is this normal? It's like first part of the screen comes on, then the other part does, and I'm worried if that's something like a bad GPU.

that does not sound like a GPU problem... more like an LCD problem (LCD panel, LCD cable, or LCD inverter).

connect the system to an external monitor/display and see if it does the same thing.

It's weird though because once the computer gets past the initial "startup phase", everything works fine. It's just that initial startup that it has the slight hang. Games, office apps, benchmarks, browsing, all just runs like it should.

i have that some times. its just a split second delay on the bottom half of the screen just where the icon is for the fingerprint reader.
dont think its anything to worry about though.

In my case it's where the fingerprint-reader and my log-in button are. You'd think with all that firepower (see sig) it wouldn't do that!

same as me then. i think its just a glitch with vista as its not all the time.

at least the powers still there once it does log in. have you done any of the vista tweaks.

Yup, Les's Vista Tweak Guide, BV's service's tweak and SuperTweak guide.

All done wonders to stripping much of the fat out of Vista.

I think It's the Vista thing. I used to see it when I was still using Vista. With Win7, I haven't seen it yet.

My room is very cool (22 deg C). Could it be my room is so cold that there's not enough heat for everything to get going? (It's been a cool summer so I'm letting the outside air cool my room)

No. With electronics, it's an almost universal rule: the cooler the better, these things would work at peak efficiency at around -40 deg C probably... Ever heard of phase change cooling?

I've seen this with Vista on my machine too. Around the login icon and fingerprint reader icon...I think it's just bug with Vista's login screen animation.

Did you disable TMM? That seems like the most likely reason I can think of.

(I"m guessing you do have it disabled, as its the first tweak in Les's guide, but I thought I'd ask)
