One of the three wifi antenna wires of my M860TU is sandwiched between the leftmost screw of the laptop fan and where the screw tightens to, I'm wondering if the laptop is really designed like this?
Do you guys have the same issue? I'd be greatful if you can open up and check the back of your laptop to confirm this, thanks!![]()

why not take out the screw and move the wire?
-
kevindd992002 Notebook Virtuoso
I just did a couple of minutes ago and that particular wire got cut giving me two antennas only. I still can connect to the wireless network. What does three antennas do?
I tried to move the wire before but it really doesn't fit the small space designated for the three wires, only two antenna wires fit in that area. Did I just lose an important antenna? -
kevindd992002 Notebook Virtuoso
the wire labeled WM1 and connected to TR1 of the Intel 5300N module was the one that got cut.

Can somebody check if your M860TU uses three wifi antennas or just two?
-
well 802.11n uses multiple antenna as part of MIMO (multiple-input multiple-output)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IEEE_802.11n
not sure how B/G might use them -
kevindd992002 Notebook Virtuoso
so am i in trouble?
-
yeah b/g brands use 2 antennas while N uses 3? when your connected to the internet how fast is your connection? I think you have no access for a N brand or less wireless range. I dont even know if this is true or not but I am just guessing lol..
-
kevindd992002 Notebook Virtuoso
My N speeds reaches only up to 144 Mbps now that I've lost one antenna. Before the wire got cut, my speeds were averaging at 270 MBps and max at 300 MBps, so I can say that three antennas really have an effect.
What can I do to repair this?
Are antenna wires two-wire (with tip and ground) or just one simple stranded wire?
Because I tried to re-splice both ends of the cut wire using a solder but it did not work. -
should most likely be a center wire and a "shield" outer braid. the center one will be hardf to solder because its prob like a 24-26awg wire and will be super thin. imo i would call who you got it from or sager and they can send you a new one. it will mean removing the display to put the new one into the lid but its really not that hard

Is it really easy to install a new antenna wire? I would call PCMW about this. I hope they will send me a new one.
What I tried is to resolder the wire. I thought it only uses one wire because I used a multimeter for connectivity checking and I noticed that wifi module connector (one end of the wire which has a hole in the center and gold metal surrounding) has its center and surrounding cover shorted. Because when I stripped the wire I saw that it seems to be a stranded wire only. I guess I was wrong. I thought that when you have a two wire cable, the center wire should somewhat be covered with another outer covering (mostly red in color) and the "shielding" surrounds that wire.
Anyway, how would you remove the display? Does that mean disassembling the whole laptop? Are the steps indicated in the Clevo M860TU service manual? Thanks. -
The steps are in the service manual, yes. You would need to trace the current antenna and put the new one in the same place.
If pcmw won't get you a new antenna, you can get them from 3rd party suppliers such as Oxfordtec -
kevindd992002 Notebook Virtuoso
Ok. But do you need to disassemble the whole laptop just to remove the display?
-
kevindd992002 Notebook Virtuoso
PCWM should send me an antenna wire since I'm on their 3 year diamond protection package, lol. What good reason will I give them to avoid several questions before actually giving out the wire?
-
Then demand something be done about it. -
kevindd992002 Notebook Virtuoso
lol, that's gud! will say that to them.
-
kevindd992002 Notebook Virtuoso
i can't see the section in the service manual that explains how to remove the display, how can i remove the display?
-
kevindd992002 Notebook Virtuoso
Is there any special guide that will lead me the way on how to access the antenna that is built in the LCD of the M860TU?
Thanks for your help. -

kevindd992002 Notebook Virtuoso
yes i will be, but to make sure everything would be alright, does anyone have a step by step procedure on how to do this? I dont want to risk anything going wrong.
Have you tried removing the screen yourself? And will you have to pop off the screen apart to see the antenna? -
kevindd992002 Notebook Virtuoso
The procedure in removing the inverter board is indicated in page 2-17 of the Celvo M860TU Service Manual. Are those the necessary steps for accessing the antennae on the back of the LCD? Do I really need to disconnect the inverter or just snap out the cover of the LCD?
And when removing the rubber covers in the LCD, can they be placed back firmly in their respective positions without any trace of removal attempts? -

I just received the replacement antenna/antenna wire. I am quite doubtful that this is the correct replacement, could someone confirm it for me?
I need help. I started to disassemble the laptop chassis and hit a snag.
Below is a picture of the broken wire connected to the antenna with the orange line showing where the other half of the wire used to be.
Is there a way to remove the plastic cover plate where the wire disappears to. (reference picture below)
By not removing the cover plate, shown below,. . .
. . .I don't know how I will "snake" the replacement wire through the hole, picture below, towards the board on the underside of the laptop.
Also, could anyone guide me, after installing the wire through the hinge of the lcd display, as to what to do next. I have no clue where to place the replacement antenna behind the lcd or even how to remove the lcd properly. -
That antenna looks like the right type.
Unfortunately, it looks like you'd need to remove the whole palmrest area to get access below that piece of plastic. Look in the service manual under removing the modem.
In order to remove the screen panel you'll need to disconnect it from the hinges. Look at the screws there and see if you can work out which ones hold it on. -
What antenna is this for?Wireless?
-
kevindd992002 Notebook Virtuoso
@bluemercury
It's for the wifi.
@theriko
The antenna I received looks like somewhat bent, will this greatly affect the functionality of the antenna? And the metal is not that flat, I think it was due to it being shipped in a regular mailing envelope only without a box, it was only placed in a small bubble wrap. -
kevindd992002 Notebook Virtuoso
is anti-static discharge a great factor in handling my laptop? what should I do/wear to avoid this phenomenon?
-
-
kevindd992002 Notebook Virtuoso
Because one of the antenna wires got cut-off and I experienced a one-half decrease in N speeds when I'm transferring files over the network. I'm pretty sure that the antenna is the culprit. I've mentioned the issue in my earlier posts in this thread
-
Is there a way to test this?im curious if this might be an issue with a specific mount lineage.....
-
kevindd992002 Notebook Virtuoso
What do you mean?
Have you opened your M860TU LCD already? If you did, I might need a hand here. -
-
kevindd992002 Notebook Virtuoso
Ahh. Don't think it's an issue, it's just that the wire got cut-off because PCMW did not put the wire in a safe position.
Bump!
Anybody can help me in this? -
kevindd992002 Notebook Virtuoso
Is there anybody with the Clevo M860TU who had the same issue as mine? Or at least was already able to disable his lappy?
-
kevindd992002 Notebook Virtuoso
bump! bump!
-
I haven't had an issue like this. Actually, I would open the laptop and would just be happy that the wireless is working as intended. Never thought to look at the wireless antenna's to see where they were going.
I'd suggest you tell PCMW about it, take pictures and demand a new one. That's all I can tell you on the subject. -
just get a universal antenna and run it inside along the keyboard and be done this will give you the third antenna
-
kevindd992002 Notebook Virtuoso
@Deathwinger
Actually PCMW sent me a new antenna already but I'm having a problem accessing the third antenna in the back of the LCD since I don't know how to access them.
Did anyone try this already?
@zfactor
I will try to buy a universal antenna. -
if they sent you another one just try what i said with it ill bet that it will work just fine that way. if it doesnt fit just place it inside somewhere if you need to. ive dont this for customers of mine on different notebooks many times that upgraded from a 2 wire system and it always worked just fine the antenna doesnt have to be in the lid to work
-
kevindd992002 Notebook Virtuoso
Yea. Why do they put the antenna in the LCD anyway?
-
So it's exposed and away from as much metal as possible. It should work in the main chassis, but it probably won't give as good signal/range
-
ive done it many times and ive never had a issue you may loose a few feet but nothing major.. and some companies use metal for the lids lol like the dell 1730 the entire lid is metal..
one of the 3 antenna wires in the m860tu laptop sandwiched
