Planning a new rig as my old one committed suicide yesterday, and I am curious what people think of the 3D uses for laptops.

    thanks.

It depends on what you want to do with it. For 3D gaming, it's worth it only if you have the highest end laptop graphics card out there or don't mind running on significantly lowered quality settings (it causes about a 50% drop in frame rates). I rather like 3D when gaming as the depth of field is pretty spectacular. Also, the 120hz screen is a fantastic upgrade regardless of whether you even plan to use 3D anyway- it makes most fast paced content look better.

We do 3D cam editing and love it to be able to do it on a Notebook...apart from that we enjoy watching some Hollywood 3D BluRays. Ghosting is still there in this tech, but apart from that It's a fantastic experience.

Even if you care nothing about 3D the 120hz screen is a thing of beauty.

Get it for the screen quality alone.

To make the screen look even better have it professionally calibrated and color profiles made for the lighting the screen will be viewed under.

I do my screens using an i1 Display 2 colorimeter and ColorEyes Display Pro software.

The Eye One Display 2 ships with free Eye One Match calibration software.Eye One Match will do a great job.
PROVANTAGE: PANTONE EODIS2 x-Rite Eye One Display 2 f/ LCD Monitors

ColorEyes Display is a costly pro software that is not needed by the normal home user.

Ye the 3D can be really nice.. however, the real advantage is the 120Hz (which you get with the 3D screen). So yes it's worth to upgrade in my opinion.
