    Hi,
Is it possible to put a p150sm motherboard into a p150em. If not why? As i see it, the motherboard is pretty much the same, the only thing that would be different would be the processor socket, and the extra msata under the old hdd. I would be happy for any detailed answers.

The EM has a DVI cut out in the chassis where the SM has a mini DisplayPort, therefore the ports won't match up. The screw standoffs may or may not be in the same places either, but no confirmation on that either way.

If all that is okay, the only other thing to check is keyboard and touchpad compatibility (touchpad should be fine, but the keyboard compatibility is also a bit uncertain).

Slight issues, and also there is the fact if you can actually get one for a fair price, haha. IIRC, there is also a discrepancy on the slots with the ports on the left of the case. Also 99% sure the keyboard connector and the ram slots have moved slightly. I can check under mine for you if you want..

i was thinking if keyboard is incompatible, the new motherboard could simply use the one which comes with p150sm, costs $60 if you know where to look. I also know a place where I can find a p150sm motherboard for about $300.

The big problem would be the dvi and mini display port incompatibility. I need to open one up and look at it closely but i don't have that option. Is there someplace i can look at schematics?

It should not be a problem, unless you feel uneasy with holes on the sides of the mini display port. If you had the tools, you can 3D print parts for your computer like I did.

May I ask why you would need to put a new motherboard in your computer? A completely new barebone with only the motherboard installed actually costs less. The rest of your components are all compatible.

How do you figure a barebones is less? The lowest barebones i found costed $800 usd + tax though it also had a screen and keyboard installed. I couldn't find any place that sells a barebone without the screen and keyboard. I would be glad for any interesting links if you have them.

The lowest cost p150sm mobo i found was at $265 +tax. I have a spare 150em with a fried board and processor and graphics i got from someone at a throwaway price. I tested the screen, keyboard and the battery, they were good.
I can put in a 150em board or i can try for a 150sm. It would be fun if it works.

So long as you are willing to grab any parts you need then it could be worth a go.
