Hey guys first time posting here so mind me if i do something stupid.

I've searched around quite alot and altough i found some items that seemed close they all didn't give me any real answers.
The issue i am having is that my 7970m throttle's down when i unplug the power cable, but whenever i plug-in the power cable it goes full burst without anything running in the background.
My problem with this is that whenever i plug-in the power cable all of the sudden i have a jet engine starting on my desk while i'm editing a word file.

I have tried lowering the settings in both catalyst and intel graphics options, but the only fix i could get so far is optimize battery life, only downside to this is that whenever i run a game it stays on powersaving mode giving me horrible frame rates.

    Specs:
    p170em
    Intel i7 3630QM
    Intel HD 4000
    Radeon HD 7970m
    16Gb ram
Windows 8 and all drivers are up to date from the official websites.
Everything else running at stock voltages and what not (not that i could change any voltages......)

Any help would be greatly appreciated. And again i apologize if this has been asked/solved before.

That sounds like fairly normal behavior. You should be able to adjust fan speed with the hotkeys if you really don't need them revving high.

Thanks for the reply, though where can i find those hotkeys. I have the hotkey drivers installed (8.0100) and haven't seen any fan controls. I did try a few things and one thing that seemed to work was disabling the 7970m in device manager and then re-enabling it, all seems to work perfect after that and when not in use it keeps a cool 40 degrees

It's not just the fans reving up the actual gpu is going on max performance 800mhz and 1200mhz, instead of its normal idle mhz.

I don't think there is a fan control with the P170EM.

The first thing I will do is to check the frequency of the GPU when you are not gaming. If it is running max like you described, then there is nothing wrong with the fan. It is doing what it is suppose to. In this case, I will guess that you have a video driver issue. It's suppose to be idling at low frequency when you are not gaming.

Yup i tested that out using the keyboardGPUTemperature thing, so whenever it uses the dedicated card my keyboard would turn green. What i noticed was then whenever i boot my pc the GPU starts running at its maximum and my keyboard is green. So i thought maybe my configure switchable graphics was set up wrong but there's absolutely nothing running in the background. I even tried bootin with only the standard windows system services still the same problem. And like stated above the only way to fix it is disabling and re-enabling the 7970m.

About the video drivers i tried a lot of combinations and alot of versions of both the iGPU and dGPU drivers, but to no avail even the standard drivers from clevo.

Hmm, you may need to do a clean driver install. Sometimes leftover data causes previous nuances to remain.

how to properly uninstall ATI/AMD Software Drivers for Graphics Cards.

You can also try something along the lines of Driver Sweeper or Revo Uninstaller, but whether you follow the guideline in the link or you try a utility, just be sure to back up your registry.

I have no idea what i've done(haven't done anything actually), but it seems to be fixed even after 5 restarts. Maybe it was my virus scanner i have no idea.

Thanks for all the help and maybe somebody else can use your tips. Or maybe i had a few lucky reboots if yes i'll come back and try wipin the drivers :).
