Basically as the title states, Im trying to update my ec and bios to see if its causing issues with my gpu fan and after formatting 2 usb's with rufus they both give the same error *not enough memory*. Any ideas how to work around this

Issue solved, used msi usb tool instead of rufus and it worked

Rufus is supposed to work just fine. Probably a setting was off.
Did flashing fix your fan issue? -
nope still doesn't seem to be spinning up till 90, the bios i downloaded was from 2012 and didnt have any fan controls so I cant test it by ramping it up in the bios as I cant seem to find a download link or anyone that replies when asked about an updated p170em bios or atleast one that has fan control

The EC is what controls the fan profile. I think the last release for this model was 1.05.01 for both the BIOS & KBC/EC firmware.
Fan speed is supposed to gradually reach about 80% on auto somewhere in the 80s Celsius, while 100% is only activated with the FN and 1 hotkey toggle, IIRC. There isn't much else in the way of manual fan control.
p170em Bios update, not enough memory
