Only problem is under playback devices I have only got 2 things listed: speakers and Realtek digital output I have selected Realtek digital output as default device but still no sound even after closing all applications and trying again. Am I missing a driver for hdmi? I can't see any hdmi device in device manager?

Make sure you have "show disabled devices". You may have to enable the HDMI audio then set it as default.

Try installing the Realtek HDMI audio driver instead of the AMD driver:

    Realtek

Yeh even when I choose to show disabled devices there is no hdmi in there, so I'm in the process of reinstalling windows and drivers on a separate hdd to see if I can fix this and another problem of freezing when multitasking.

As I say use the Realtek HDMI driver. The AMD driver has issues with recognising EDIDs sometimes.

i have the same issue but i don't want to reinstall windows all over again.. what driver did you use?! i tried the realtek hdmi driver a couple of days ago - i think it refused to install because it didn't find a compatible device but i'm not sure anymore - anyway it didn't work :/

just to make sure - i have an amd radeon 7970m installed and i'm using the original clevo driver as i didn't find any better one yet..

no unfortunately it isn't. The HDMI output just doesn't show up in the audio devices list of windows - even if i choose to also show disabled devices. I only have "Speakers - Realtek High Definition Audio" and "Realtek Digital Output" but nothing regarding an HDMI audio output. It doesn't show up in Realtek's HD Audio Manager application either as it used to on my old laptop - just as if it wouldn't be capable to play back audio through hdmi.. Has to be a driver issue - but i don't know which one it could be.. Maybe i should try reinstalling the amd drivers since the installation somehow ended in a black screen with a cursor flashing in the left corner of the screen but the video drivers work fine - if you can call it that at this early beta driver stage :D I'm actually going to try reinstalling the amd drivers right now and i'll get back to you - maybe it fixes the issue..

i got it working - actually what i did was on top of the original clevo driver i installed the catalyst 12.7 beta - i was surprised that it's actually working - when i first tried it out when i installed the notebook it definitely didn't work!! Well now that didn't fix the hdmi yet, so i decided to reinstall the original clevo amd driver on top of the 12.7 beta - and voilà - now there is a device called intel display audio - and it's playing back fine through the av receiver. i just hope the 12.7 beta drivers work fine as they're still installed. The Device manager says the driver version for the amd 7970m is as follows: 8.981.2.0 - should be the 12.7 beta right?
