I just received my laptop and installed Win 7 Pro 64 bit.

All of the drivers from the clevo CD worked fine, except for the VGA driver. I get a message stating "Device was not found or please enable it before installing its driver!!"

The amddriverdownloader shows that I have a "Radeon HD 6xxxM Series" and that the best driver is "catalyst_mobility_64-bit_util.exe".

I downloaded that and ran it. Then I got this message.

"AMD Catalyst Mobility cannot be downloaded due to incompatible hardware/software on your computer.

Your computer does not contain a proper graphics adapter"

So either I am missing something vital when installing or the card is bad.

I contacted them first. Suggestion is to try a third set of drivers from the Clevo site.

Those are downloading now. But I am suspecting I will have the same results.

I was hoping that there was some sort of prerequisite set of windows patches. After I got the initial fault, I installed every update from MS. but still have the same error.

Did you do a Clean windows Install ? if so, you might be missing some chipset controllers and perhaps that's the reason why your graphics card is not being recognized.

If you got a drivers CD from your reseller you might want to try running it and re-install the controllers, then install the video drivers.

Also, you can check the device manager to see if something is missing or unrecognized.

Yeah, clean install. Everything in the device manager is recognized. The video card shows up as a Standard VGA graphics adapter.

Under the advanced settings for the display it shows up as AMD ATOMBIOS, 8 bit, Bios 01.00, 16MB graphics memory.

I pulled the graphics card, blew out the socket, and reinstalled it. The card was recognized after that and I was able to install the driver and control center.

Can I get some help? I'm having a similar issue where I can't install any drivers for my 6990M. Either I get a error "AMD Catalyst Mobility cannot be downloaded due to incompatible hardware/software on your computer." when installing from ATI.

Also, my old drivers keep reinstalling themselves after I uninstall them to install the new drivers! I have the setting turned off and it still happens!

    Really could use some help.

If it is possible, you may want to uninstall the drivers and delete the software, then reinstall in safe mode. Sometimes this works, sometimes it doesn't, but it is worth a shot if it works :)

or just reformat and reinstall. that way you can be sure it isn't a software problem.

I reinstalled everything from scratch. I don't think it was a hardware problem for me.

The Drivers Installer disk I received in the box is version 1.00.04. There was no other disk in the box with the updated 6990M drivers. I did a manual install of the drivers from that 1.00.04 disk and the inf file only listed the 6970m.

The amddriverdownloader detects the right card but apparently the 11.9 control center does not have drivers in it for the 6990M.

HD6990M.zip drivers from the clevo site is either corrupt or there is something going on with the download. I downloaded the same file from the pro-star site.

I think I had already crapped all over my OS install so it failed the first and second fresh installs. Whatever I did during the install messed up my ability to install the correct drivers.

I pulled the card and reinstalled a third time but I think that did not do anything.

First thing, install the Chipset drivers from the disk.
Second thing, run the install from the HD6990.zip.

do you mean that you don't think it was a software problem? Did you install the drivers from the disk and then the downloaded drivers after, or did you install the downloaded one first? I'm not sure if that'll make a difference, but sometimes uninstalling a program before updating it helps.

    1. Uninstall the current drivers
    2. Run 3dguru's Driver Sweeper
    3. Select AMD removal
    4. Reboot
    5. Install the 850 drivers provided off of sager's site
    6. Reboot

No, I mean I do not think it was a hardware problem. It was a driver problem.

This version is really old FYI, It might now even remove all the files.

Here is the dev's website with the latest DriverSweeper: Phyxion.net - Driver Sweeper

EDIT: If you are going to install an AMD Catalyst driver, make sure you have OCL on the file name. Those work without any hiccups.
