I know the p870km1-g doesn't have 3d display but what i'm asking is can i hook up a 3d external player to the laptop run a 3d movie through the laptop and onto a external display that does have 3d capability and have it function like its supposed to?

Any ideas if this is worth it?

What do you mean by this exactly? A 3D bluray player? An external BluRay drive?

You can play 3D content directly over HDMI to a 3D TV or Projector perfectly fine using a regular video player (ie MPC-HC). Then just configure your TV 3D mode as needed (ie SBS or OU).

Yes you can use your laptop and you just need to enable 3D function using nVidia control panel or Windows display settings.

Yes all external direct outputs (mini dp X2 and HDMI) support all Nvidia external features on all models of this machine such as 3d vision and g-sync.
