As I stated in a earlier thread I'm currently in iraq and just purchased a NP5792 although I currently own a HP dv6000. Recently my Hp and another friend of mines who owns a alienware area51 9750 have had problems trying to play dvd's on our laptops. We have bought and play "bootleg" copies of movies from locals here in Iraq and I believe that somehow that, that has contributed to the non-playablilty of dvd (although cd, games, and even older dvd's still play). I'm not sure if that is the problem but I know that I have I changed the region to no effect other than it wouldn't play even the older dvd's or the "haji dvd's" as we call them. So changing the region is not the problem or solution. Other than the bootleg dvd's I don't see how our laptops could be affected and I don't want my Sager to fall victim to the same problem.I am not 100 percent that these "dvds'" are the probelm and if anyone has information about the problem or how to fix it I would appericate it. I knowits not nessicarly a Sager issue but I just want to make sure it dosn't become one also. Thanks.

How frequently have you changed regions on your older notebook? Generally speaking, you are limited to 5 region changes before a computer locks you into one specific region. Are you able to browse the DVDs data structure? (There should be a Video_TS and Audio_TS folder on any movie DVD) If you can browse the data structure, it may simply be a problem with the DVDs themselves either preventing playback or being an incompatible region. If you can't browse the data structure, it could be that the DVDs are simply unreadable, regardless of system. Have the DVDs that give you trouble ever worked?

I have noticed this issue with pirated DVD's coming in from Asia, Usually they play on a regular DVD player but do not play in the Computer drives.. Not sure why, but then if u get a chance try playing in a DVD player connected to a TV.

i've changed regions twice...as for the data structure it won't even open up on my computer as a dvd it either dosn't reconigize it por it freezes up my computer into not responding...... and yes the dvds I've watched on the Hp before but I can't now....
I don't have a problem watching pirated dvd's its the american non pirated one i can't watch now.... and now that i think about it it may have started after I installed a pirated game .... but I can't be sure.... -
If it potentially started after installing suspect software, your only recourse may be to do a format and reinstall of the OS. I would try your "problem DVDs" on your NP5792 FIRST, and test them again each time you install or do something that you believe might have caused the issue on your HP. If you catch the problem quickly enough, you may be able to do a system restore, rather than a format and reinstall, to restore functionality.
