Grab open hardware monitor http://openhardwaremonitor.org/files/openhardwaremonitor-v0.6.0-beta.zip or HWMonitor CPUID - System & hardware benchmark, monitoring, reporting and run it as it sounds like your CPU and/or GPU are overheating.

The fans should run, especially when your laptop is under any type of load. If they do not, then it is nearly guaranteed suffering from an overheating issue. Either tool above will show you what your temperatures are.

    Solutions:

    1. Make sure your fans are running, if not, get them repaired ASAP.
    2. Clean out your laptop (open it up, blow out the fans and vents)

You probably resolved this problem by now, but YES, fans spin when you turn the laptop on and it posts, even if it won't post, it will spin the fans.

If you're brave enough, reconnect the fan cables and make sure nothing is obstructing the fans. If they continue to not spin and you have this issue repeatedly, the laptop will probably need serviced.
