You should ask clevo, I think they would know a tad bit more than us.

Adinu....your wisdom is boundless. I agree, this would be a good thing to know, but Clevo probably wont tell anyone.

Exactly, if Cleveo won't tell anyone, how could anyone on here possibly know the answer?

You will have to wait for the Sager/Pro-Star (or other Clevo reseller) representatives for any major price drops, but its not going to be any time soon.

It might get cheaper later this summer when the M570RU gets announced for release.

I always thought that price drops typically correspond with the release of newer technology, so distributors can move the "older" stuff off the shelf. I would guess the release of SantaRosa based Clevos would signal a price drop in the M570U. That's just my guess.

Clevo notebooks are "special" in that even if the newer models come out, the prices usually stays steady, only a marginal 5-8% would be seen, which I have noticed with previous models.

Seems that you ave to wait for 2 years [after newer models are released] to even see current models have a somewhat of a significant [10-15%] price drop.

Current models just disappear (that is they are sold out) by the time the new models are released. If there is a significant price drop for the older models it is very short lived.

Since these are custom built laptops, you don't have "left overs" like you do with the pre-built Multi-National Company's brands.

I've seen 200.00 discounts when products are being discontinued for new products.

Orlbuckeye, have you seen that kind of price drop on Sager (Clevo) products...or just on major brand items?

There is a totally different approach to the issue between the two.

Can you give any specific examples?

What models and when have you seen significant price drops just prior to end of life?

I, too, have seen these from time to time.

For example, the sager n9890 had a steep $400 discount for a back to school special last August. That was not really an end of life deal, as the model continued to be built...and soon after, the actual price dropped $200, so it was in essence a $200 drop.

I can recall a $200 discount as well when some models are introduced--the 5760 had this for a short time I think.

You are correct with both of your examples. These were the only times we saw such a discount on the Sager/Clevo products. Just as you say it was a very short lived (maybe 2 weeks or so) discount as the new platforms were ready to be introduced. Existing inventory was cleared out quickly.

In approximately 8 years that we have been selling the Sager product, this was the only time we have seen these kind of discounts and I don't really expect to see them again except in equally rare occasions.

My point here is and has been that offering these kinds of End of Life discounts is a common occurrence with Multi National Brands, but a very rare occurrence with the Sager/Clevo product.
