My question is would it be cheaper to just buy a 1 gig stick on one slot and then go to newegg or somewhere and buy another gig?

Powernotebook upgrade to 2 gig dd2 667 is an additional 235 dollars.

Is it easy to put in ram your self and how would I ensure compatability.

    cheers. ;)

I researched this option while assembling a potential configuration for a 5750, and it'll run you about $200 to buy two 1GB sticks of RAM for this notebook from Newegg. I would just order the RAM with the notebook and save myself the worry.

not to mention, your warranty will not cover the newegg-bought ram, or any problems it causes. as chaz or paladin said in a previous thread, if you call sager for tech support, they are gonna make you take out the other ram and test the system b4 they can help you further.

hmm, interesting but you could for the upgrade price buy 2 gigs of ram and then take have an extra gig lying around (the one that came with the laptop). I can see myself throwing that extra gig in my dell 1705

CORRECTION: The upgrade price from 1GB (1 SODIMM) to 2GB (2 SODIMMs) is $160, not $235

$160 for a 2GB upgrade is a good price. Individual 1GB sticks are around $80, so you would end up paying the same if you did it yourself, and you wouldn't have a warranty on them save for the one from the RAM company.

Please let me clarify. The price did not change today.

    Upgrade from 512MB to 2GB = $235
    Upgrade from 1GB (2 SODIMMs) to 2GB = $160
Upgrade from 1GB (1 SODIMM) to 2GB = $150-155 depending on whether it is the SUPRA or FORCE

So, the single piece of 1GB from Sager runs between $150-155 which is considerably higher than the $80 Chaz mentions. However there is a high probability that memory won't work because the Sager 17" models are fairly sensitive to memory. The reason to buy it from Sager is that you know it will work, and it will be warranted by Sager.

I got mine with 2Gb pre-installed for that exact reason (and the good price, of course: you'd only save a few bucks by going Newegg). For once, it's convenient to get the RAM from the vendor. :)
