Hi
Im wondering of the 2 companys, pro-star and eurocom which is better?
Prostar I save around $100, but I hear eurocom is better.
Im getting a 8690/w860cu
-
If you're in Canada, getting Eurocom to price match is the way to go.
If you're in the US, forget EC. -
Pro-star is cheaper then eurocom in the end, even though I got them to pricematch. I am in canada.
Stillthink that? -
Well you also need to consider that Pro-Star won't pay your shipping, should you need to use your warranty, and that may get expensive going across the border. The $100 might be worth it, but it's up to you.
But I have owned a Pro-Star machine, and they're a good company. -
I thought pro-star paid for 2 way shipping for the warranty
I'll have to check about that, its just that the eurocom resellerrating isnt great -
I bought my M571ru from Eurocom 2 yrs. ago, I got a really good deal with the conversion rate of the US dollar to the CAN. The service was fair, but my unit did have the worst LCD screen that I have had with a laptop. Whether or not thats Eurocom, or whomever they get their ODM's from fault.
-
I would think it is the ODM's fault, not eurocom's.
Hows the support at eurocom, it it good? -
I sent mine back twice, and paid the shipping both times. If they were supposed to be paying, I'll be pissed.
-
Thats what tehy told me in a past contact, but Ill take your word, looks like its now between eurcom and xotic, is xotic really worth the extra $100?
I think it is, but really I just cant afford it, and I'd have to pull a lot of strings -
If they told you they'll pay for it, then they will. Your being in Canada probably has something to do with offering free shipping, plus, I never specifically asked.
-
How was the customer support at pro-star?
-
Soviet Sunrise Notebook Prophet
It was pro.
-
I've owned a pro-star--Good customer service, solid company.
-
I can share my experience of when I bought my M860TU. I tried getting Eurocom to price-match xoticpc, but they never went lower than about 200-300$ more. Even with shipping extra cost and 7% more taxes, xoticpc was cheaper. Plus, xoticpc's support is alot better than eurocom. Eurocom never responded to their emails :/. Xoticpc pays shipping one way for RMAs btw. I would honestly just suggest getting from either pro-star or xoticpc, whichever is the cheapest (also considering RMAs shipping costs).
-
Never had any issue with Pro-Star CS. To be more accurate (I'd honestly forgotten all about this), I bought mine from Lynnbay, a PS reseller. PS then merged Lynnbay into itself, so in the end I'm still dealing with the same people who I had enjoyable interactions with.
This also explains why I paid for shipping, because I was dealing with Lynnbay at the time of my RMA. -
So you reccomend pro-star I guess?
-
Well, I have nothing bad to say about them. Now I'm strictly going the barebones -> self build route, but if I was in need of a prebuilt, I'd definitely buy from them again.
I'm not one of those guys who's going to shill for the company they bought from, and I still think your best move would be to call each of the considered companies. -
called pro-star, they speak proper english!
Im going to go with them as they have 2 way prepaid, and its way cheaper even pricematched, and will come next week instead of early nov -
Eurocom is Canadian...last I checked we speak English in Canada (unless your in Quebec, but Eurocom isn't, it's in Ontario.)
-
Pro-Star will sell you a notebook however you want to configure it--barebones included, you have to call them to make a particular order.
-
The grammar isn't great from what I see.
Ive also had confusions because of what the sales associate said due to his grammar in which he said it. -
Yea I want it pro-configured
(like my pun?)
-
talk to John Shore at Eurocom. He sold me my laptop and I had a great experience going through him. Buying Canadian also means less hassle in the future if you need to return for repairs etc. Support the Canadian Economy!
-
I think even though I want to go with xoticpc I'll have to go with eurocom just because I want to deal with a canadian company
-
-
well.. you might wanna look at the two other threads concerning eurocom, one is called fair and legal business practices, the other is around somewhere, too.
there are issues to strongly consider not buying from eurocom, especially if you wanna try to get them to "price-match".
I am in Canada, too and in the end went with xotic, and have nothing to complain about. if you really wanna go with a canadian company, check out buydirectpc, they're canadian as far as I know. -
Soviet Sunrise Notebook Prophet
ProStar = Rocky
Eurocom = Clubber T
-
I went with xotic as most of you know.
Also, prostar I thought wasn't supposed to be good?
xoticpc= godzilla
powernotebooks= king kong
Who willwin? -
Rocky will kill them both after he's done with Clubber T
Edit: Oh but I'm not talking about the brands, just rocky

Where did you read that? -
I just ordered the D900F from Pro-Star last week to be shipped to Canada. So far the experience have been very good, (only need to pay $50 for 1-2 day priority shipping which includes duties) sales called me back within 20mins after placing my order thanking me and confirming details.
I will keep you guys posted as to how the rest goes. -

Pro Star hands down is the best option as Eurocom are a bunch of crooks who have a reputation of absolutely dismal quality (systems arriving half built and/or missing parts) and disgusting customer relations/business ethics (Company president lying to customers to make profit, and threatening customers because they write bad reviews of Eurocom after they've been lied to and ripped off) see my sig for more details. Eurocom should never be an option for anyone who knows better.

Got my laptop yesterday (no turkey day in Canada)...everything was packaged securely and nicely, no dead pixels, just an awsome machine compared to my dell 9400.
Only problem I have is a buzzing or crackling sound coming from the power supply whenever the HD or CPU/GPU is underload. Anyone else having this problem on the D900F or 9280s? Will call them on Monday and see if I can have it replaced, shouldnt make those sounds. -
Actually just ordered my M980NU from Pro-Star tonight. They'll be shipping it to my cousin in Jersey, now all I have to do is find time to go down there to pick it up when they get it.
-
A little heavy handed there now yes? Do you not accept that 100's per 1000's have had positive experiences with Eurocom? I'm not refuting your experience but I'm just asking for some fair and balanced perspective. I'll tell you what: I purchased TWO 570RU systems from them - both with 3 year warranties. I'm about to send one of the systems in for some service work. I'll gladly report back my experience here -- but how 'bout you ease off a little instead on this one man crusade? I think you made your point. Do you need to keep making it?
EDIT TO ADD: I'm still a little unclear why you have taken on this cause - I thought it was the other guy wronged in those other threads. -

Heavy handed? no not in my opinion but opinions may vary, I'm not saying no one had a good experience I'm saying people have had bad experiences, disgustingly bad experiences and Eurocom has developed a bad reputation because of this, if you've had a good experience with Eurocom then that's really nice for you and I'm very happy you have not had to go through the crap a lot of us have gone through with them and I hope you never do. Personally I find the one man crusade comment a bit of an embellishment, but I do like to get the word out about Eurocom and their shady business practices.
As a victim of Eurocom myself I feel it is my duty to let people know about other peoples experiences with them, protecting potential buyers from Eurocom is the right thing for me to do to prevent them from experiencing the same issues and hardships we've experienced, and although my issues with Eurocom were dealt with long ago, the lies, deviousness and sheer lack of morality I experienced from the president of Eurocom, as well as some of the employees continues to this day, and seeing this disgusting crap still happening to more people here just goes to show that I need to continue to do what I do and show the side of Eurocom I and others know all too well.. the side some people don't want others to hear about. -
crylo have you ever buy a laptop from pro-star?

No I haven't, but I'm considering them for my next Clevo purchase, I've heard good things about ProStar, it'll probably be between them powernotebooks or Xotic.
