in the power settings, i've changed it so that when i close the lid, nothing happens. i saved the settings, restarted my computer, but i have problems when i close the lid. the computer stays on and i can tell that programs are running because the fan is still on, but the screen becomes pitch black. i can't get the screen to turn back on. if i open and close the lid several times, eventually the screen will turn itself back on... sometimes.

the only fix is to restart my computer, which defeats the purpose of even closing the lid. does anyone know whats wrong? i'm using a sager NP2090 with specs in my profile

    thanks for any help

There should be a hotkey for turning the LCD on

    but where?

i've had this problem too! with my np2090 - sometimes my computer will sleep, and the screen won't come back on afterwards - i've just been shutting the lid to force it into standby and then starting it back up again, but that's a pain.

there usually is a small magnet inside the display and the base that make contact when its closed otherwise a small pin switch (mostly on older systems) sound imo like this is not working properly..

i have had 2 d900t's and an alienware m9750 and all 3 of them did the same thing. sometimes the screen would go dim or blank when opening it from a close position. i had to close and re-open the lid, sometimes multiple times. i always thought it was nvidia driver-related because it would not do this in safe mode or in bios or when nvidia drivers were not installed. the screen would always come up in an instant.

my 9262, ironically, does not experience this annoying symptom. i don't know why, but the screen will come on instantly.

could be the external monitor settings also. i have head of this in cases with vista but i believe you are running xp. check to see if it does a dual monitor or external monitor check when you are opening the lid

My older NX9420 used to do this sometime. I found that reinstalling the whole system fixed the issue.

Ooh, this may be it! I have XP, but I did have it set to multiple monitors - changed it back and am crossing my fingers it won't happen any more. :)
