If i were to use a quad core on prototype, that requires a 2.6 GHZ c2d, what would be more advanced?

    a Duo 2.8 Ghz
    or a Quad 2.0 Ghz

Games are starting to have more threads, and arkham is going to need a 3.0 Pentium D (Dual core). what would last longer vs games in my new computer?

Well since it's a pentium duo 2.6 ghz, any of the two cpus you mentionned will run it really well.
So it comes down to the classic high duo vs low quad. I think your more future proof with the quad, if you don't mind a little more heat and a little less battery life. but really both are good processors.

if you were to equate a 2.0 quad core into a dual-core format, what would it end up being? a 3.5 would make alot of sense, but that's no math and only a guess

nah thats not how cpu's work, instead its a manner of preference. Cpu's work like this, they do only one calculation at a time, the faster clocks the faster it can complete the calculation. A dual core allows 2 calculations to be done at the same time, a quad does the same thing, it allows 4 calculations to be done at the same time, though the q9000 will complete a single calculation slower than the dual, the quad will allow you to have more more calculations to be done in the same time frame. Which is why quad (at least in laptops) are normally reserved for people doing lots of multitasking or video editing.

hmm. so i'd be better off playing games like crysis, fear 2, and prototype on a dual core, rather than a quad? I mean, if games get too advanced, a 2.8 won't be able to handle them anymore. should i get the q9000?

    dont worry about it all...
the only games that need quadcores are those horrible games resulting from a console port and imo arent worth buying anyway.
you want battery? get a P Series Duo. CPU very rarely affects performance...

    Let the flame commence!

Not true, any RTS will benefit from a quadcore, along with a lot of the newer games coming out. Dragon Age Origins Recommends a 2.4gz c2q, and that's definitely not a port.

yeah. games like Fear 2 and Farcry2, and WoW will need multi calcs, right? is it worth the extra 50 bucks? and i don't want this to turn into a flame fest. please don't get off topic

I have two M860TUs(see sig) with Duo and a Quad and have played Far Cry 2 and UT3. I must say that it's better to have a good GPU than CPU.

The 9800GT choked (could be the difference between 512mb vs 1gb of GPU memory) from time to time with Far Cry 2, while the GTX260m kept on going at 1680x1050 at the highest settings. Both the quad and the duo performed like it was business as usual.

So I think you'll be fine with the CPU you have along with your GTX260m.

I have not played Crysis. Sounds like an overrated game depending on who you ask.

On the back of my Prototype DVD box, the PC requirements says Core2Duo 1.8 Ghz, not 2.6 Ghz.

I play Prototype on all High settings, no Vsync and no AA on my 2.0 Ghz Q9000 Quad CPU with maximum fps noticed so far of 82 fps, usually 60 fps, occasionally 45 fps with lots of action. Either way, it runs really smoothly but if you aren't careful about your Nvidia Control Panel settings, you can lose a lot of performance.

I notice a performance drop if I enable threaded optimisation from the control panel for example.

I am interested to know what performance / fps people are getting with this game, particularly at 1680 X 1050 resolutions, all high, no AA, no Vsync.

What is the highest, constant, lowest fps you get?

If anyone is playing this on their NP8662, it would be great if you could list your specs and performance. Thanks to anyone who can do this, it is appreciated.

What sort of fps did you get?

I changed all of the Nvidia Control Panel settings to high quality and AF 16X and things look better but the graphics are definitely not next gen.

1920x1200, maxed, 2x AA with the notebook in my sig I was getting:

    Min: 25
    Average: 45
    Max: 60

It only dropped to 25 during some really intensive fights when I'd get thrown into a corner and get mobbed by like 50 guys.
I think the graphics are pretty good, it's like assassins creed x 1.5, and I liked the assassins creed graphics.
